Precip was mostly light to occasionally moderate--coastal areas received more precip than inland areas. Precip was only measured one other time today at 0900 local when total was .36"; during the afternoon there was a considerable amount of time when there was no precip, in fact there was a period when the sun briefly shone; the precip did pick up again during the evening hours and then slacked off again close to obs time. A stronger storm is due late Wednesday (Christmas) nite or early Thursday morning lasting most of the day Thursday; just light showers predicted between now and then |

(Friday)FINALLY!! This week of rain has ended. Following are rain gauge readings taken through out this busy day:
Midnite to 9:00am- .96"; 10:00am- 1.16"; 11:00am- 1.37"

3:00pm- 1.63"; 4:00pm- 1.72"; 5:00pm- 1.87";
11.59pm (obs time); 1.91"; for the most part most of the precip today was light to moderate in intensity with only brief moments of heavy intensity; today was easily the most one day amount of precip this winter and probably the most one day amount of precip going back a few years; also one of the longest stretches of precip stretching out 5 days here, but some places in the county had precip for 6 days total; the final storm total was

(Wednesday) Not quite as hot today as yesterday with max temps 5-9 degrees cooler; still El Cajon set a record for the date for highest minimum temp at 73 besting the previous mark of 71 set in 2018; not too much TRW activity today and not much forecast for tomorrow either; some cooling to begin Friday into the weekend but also some moisture increase expected during the weekend, some monsoonal and a possible tap into moisture from a dissipating hurricane; a bit more cooling expected next week as the strong high pressure giving us the heat finally breaks down |

(Thursday)A couple of degrees hotter today; this sta reached 94; triple digit max temps were limited to RIV and SBD counties; there was some TRW activity in the county today but precip totals were no more than a quarter inch; El Cajon did tie a record for today's date for highest minimum temp at 71 last reached in 1997; forecast calling for similar conditions tomorrow with some increased moisture over the weekend from a dissipating tropical storm which might increase TRW chances if expected increased cloud deck is not too thick; night time temps about the same in the low 70's at obs time but it did reach 69 at this sta early this morning; forecast also calling for slightly cooler conditions by early next week |

(Friday)Heat continues; only a degree cooler at this sta (93) today; a few 100 degree readings in the county but most were in RIV and SBD counties again; some TRW activity in mtn areas today with some light showers moving west and dissipating during mid evening; extremely humid and uncomfortable during the evening with temps in the upper 70's to around 80 close to obs time; tomorrow forecast to be the same as moisture from the dissipating hurricane arrives with even the possibility of TRW west of the mtns if conditions set up right; temps and humidity lower later by next week but temps will still be slightly above seasonal |

(Saturday)A little less heat today; actually max temp at this sta was 89 but humidity was still quite high keeping nites quite warm; temps in the mid 70's at obs time and last nite El Cajon set a record for the date again for highest minimum temp at 76 beating the previous mark of 74 set in 1982; far fewer 100 degree plus readings today and again they were mainly up north of here; there was some TRW activity east of here that moved northwest and dissipated by early evening; lessening TRW chances as next week progresses and humidity is due to lessen a bit too; temps will still be above seasonal levels but hopefully not by much; due to moisture from a dissipating storm there are small chances for TRW activity late tonite and early Sunday morning mainly at the coast or off the coast but areas north of here seem more prone to get it than here |

(Monday)Slight cooling today; max temps dropped 3-4 degrees from yesterday(90 degrees at this sta); a warm up is expected the first part of the week but the air will be drying out and becoming less humid so even though the temp is rising, it still should be more comfortable; TRW activity is also expected to be more unlikely; nites expected to be slightly cooler too (in low 70's at obs time tonite) with high minimum temp records less likely to occur but once again El Cajon did set another high minimum temp record for today's date at 74 beating the previous record of 70 set in 2018; some slight cooling by late in the weekend |

(Tuesday)Another seasonable day (83 here); seasonable weather expected through Thursday but a rather potent heat wave is on the way from Friday through the Labor Day weekend; inland valleys could see temps as high as 100-115 and this heat will extend to the coast also with highest temps there 90-100; hottest days are supposed to be Saturday and Sunday with some moderation in the heat expected beginning Monday; so far, nites and early mornings are pleasantly cool with temps reaching the low 60's but with higher temps expected later in the week, that will probably change too |

(Wednesday)Another pleasant day with max temp here reaching only 82 degrees; one more day of pleasant weather before the heat surge starts Friday and extends into the Labor Day weekend; Saturday and Sunday forecast to be the hottest with many 100+ degree record breaking temps possible; slight cooling may start by; Labor Day but temps will still be above normal; nites which continue to be pleasantly cool (low to mid 60's) will probably be no lower than the 70's at the peak of the heat wave |

(Thursday) Last of the really comfortable days as temps here rose 5-6 degrees from yesterday (88 here); heating up to start tomorrow with a nasty looking heat wave expected to last through the holiday weekend with Saturday and Sunday looking to be the hottest days with some valley high temps possibly nearing 110 and setting records with nights possibly being as warm as the upper 70's to around 80; then slightly cooler Monday into the middle of next week; will probably be the hottest days of this year and maybe years past; only bit of saving grace is that humidity is supposed to be low with offshore flow setting up which will increase both the temperature and the fire danger |

(Friday)More warming today; reached 91 here; the worst is yet to come tomorrow and Sunday with max temp forecasts of near 110 both days. Nites forecast to be very warm too and that has already started tonite with temps in the mid 70's at obs time; a bit of cooling may start on Monday but not much and a Santa Ana event may start as early as next Tuesday keeping temps above seasonal levels and very dry for much of the week |

(Saturday)A day for the record books-hottest day I can remember in the nearly 45 years I have lived here; max temp at this sta was 107-a 17 degree rise from yesterday and for El Cajon at 114 breaking the previous record set of 107 set in 1984 and it was the highest max temp for ANY DAY on record dating back to 1899; some desert communities reached as high as 122 today; not much if any relief for tomorrow either; some cooling to begin Monday and into Tuesday but then a Santa Ana condition sets up the middle to latter part of next week possibly bringing more triple digit max temps again before another minor cool down begins by next weekend; nite time temps tonite are also about the warmest I have ever seen with readings above 80 at obs time which will no doubt aid in giving quick rise to temps in the morning |

(Sunday)Not as bad a day max temp wise as was forecast; only reached 102 here when forecast was calling for 110+; depending which station was used, El Cajon reached either 107 or 111; even San Diego (Lindbergh Field) reached 100 today; cooling trend has started but will be felt on the coast first starting tomorrow and inland starting Tuesday; relief will be short lived as a Santa Ana condition is due to set up by midweek bringing at least 90 degree + temps starting Wednesday into next weekend; nite time temps here are about 10 degrees cooler tonite at obs time than they were last nite |

(Wednesday)Temps on the rise but still a pleasant day with a high of 85 here today; even Palm Springs only reached 98 today marking the first sub 100 degree day there since June 29th; expected Santa Ana winds were much less intense than was forecasted and enabled firefighters to make some progress on containing the large fire still raging east and south of here; not much in the way of winds expected tonite and tomorrow and the forecast is just calling for gradual warming through early next week when temps could reach 5-10 degrees above normal; nites continue to be comfortable with temps already in the upper 60's at obs time |
