There may be a flake or two falling. There were times yesterday morning it was snowing so hard that it was whiteout conditions. The temperatures are very mild for December. Looking at our averages for the date our lows are what our highs should be. The temperatures and snow are more like early and late season not typical of December. A few flakes of snow fell yesterday morning but disappeared quickly. Friday was very cold with the temperature remaining in the teens at this location. We drove over Vail Pass at about 11:30 am and the temperature was 10 degrees and mostly sunny. On the return over Vail Pass at 2:30 pm the thermometer also read 10 degrees but with strong winds! Finally we had some measurable and beneficial precipitation!Yesterday morning was lovely but clouds began building late in the morning. The rain began about 1:30 pm at this location and about 15 minutes later we were in the middle of an intense thunderstorm with heavy rain and a little bit of hail. Rain ended about 4:30 pm. Tuesday morning to early afternoon some clouds provided much needed relief from the intense sun. The cooler temperatures felt great. However, the dark clouds did not produce any rain at this location. Red Flag warnings continue with our extremely dry conditions. This morning our current temperature is 41 degrees and the sky is mostly clear with a few clouds. Much of yesterday was smoke free until the evening and then the smoke returned. This morning looks smoke free but the air quality rating would lead one to believe otherwise. |

After a mostly sunny start Wednesday morning dark clouds rolled in about 11 am. About 11:30 am we heard rumbles of thunder and a few drops of rain fell. About 30 minutes later it looked like another few drops might fall from the dark clouds but no such luck. The temperature yesterday was in the 70's and pleasant. Smoke from the Grizzly Creek fire and the Pine Gulch fire rolled back in about 7 pm. Our current temperature is 38 degrees and the sky is hazy with some lingering smoke. |

Thursday morning was bright blue sky, clear and beautiful. The sky became hazy by mid day with smoke from the Pine Gulch Fire and the Grizzly Creek Fire. There were also a few clouds. Wednesday was hot again. So many days in the 80's is unusual for here. We had a brief shower about 6 pm. the sound of rain on the roof was a most welcome sound! The morning was mostly clear then clouds moved in for the afternoon. Despite looking dark and threatening at times the clouds did not produce any rain in the afternoon or early evening. Sunday morning was cool but very cloudy and hazy. When the sun came out late in the morning the temperature rose very quickly to the low 80's. The haze was awful. In the evening the sky partly clear. Hurray! It rained enough to measure! Tuesday morning was clear and sunny. Clouds began to build by mid day and rain began about 4:30 pm with just a few drops and then the rain fell heavily for a while. By about 6 pm it ended for a while. There must have been another shower later in the evening. When the rain began in the afternoon the temperature dropped at least 15 degrees right away. Rain fell steadily throughout the morning until early afternoon. The sun came out about 3 pm but the high was only about 60 degrees and the cool temperature felt so good after so many hot days. Clouds moved in again about dinner time. About 7:30 pm a violent thunderstorm moved in. We had thunder, lightning, heavy rain, wind, and hail! A fierce storm blew in early yesterday morning with rain and wind. Mid Morning there was a brief period with sunshine and some clouds until early afternoon when we had snow and wind and at times blizzard conditions.
