First the rain gauge was capped level covering more than half the top with the wet smoothed snow interrupting how much snow could filter in. The other was is that I measured the snow last night around 9:00 PM. and it measured 4.5" the as it did this AM. but it had snowed at least an inch after by this AM. . Compaction? Yesterday I was in town when the snow started there in the north part at some high points, plus I saw snow and sleet/melted snow pellets mixing in at 40 degrees. The dewpoint was 27 degrees here when I left for town. My wife got home before me at 3:30 PM. and she said it was snowing then. When I got home a little after 4:00 PM. the ground was already white. I forgot to mention about the day this last week that was very windy, Monday?, our top wind gust came between 9:00 and 9:30 AM. at 48 mph. . Ran across some large shaded areas on the house half of property that all measured 5" of snow. |

The precipitation started as very light freezing drizzle yesterday shortly before 8:00 AM. then snow around 10:30 AM., snow granules/balls or pellets which over time slowly got bigger and fluffier. A short heavier shower came through a little before 12:00 noon that barely whitened the ground. The snow started to slowly pick up around 3:00 PM. and started to get a little heavier after 5:00 PM. and it just continued to get a little heavier as time went on after that but it always was showery. By 10:00 PM. we had 2.5" of snow. The Temp. stayed in the low twenties during the day and after sunset dipped into the upper teens. It was 12 degrees @ 6:15 AM. this morning. |

The 5" the previous day, the start of it all, was very light and fluffy. The PM. snow of the 27th was light but large flake most of the night I saw. It then kept snowing yesterday AM. after 7:30 AM. and I measured when it was done, we had another 1.9" but when I measured the total it was only 5.5" because the new snow packed down the previous fluffy snow. Then yesterday the clouds got thin and the sun came out 3 times briefly and it got to 27 degrees. The gutters were running lightly but consistently for about 2 hrs. so we had some melting besides some settling of the snow. Yesterdays snow was also mostly small flaked for a more dense snow. Then last night it was snowing at 8:00 PM. lightly and small flaked and appeared to most of the night for it was still snowing the same this AM. at 6:00. and was still unstopped when I measured at 7:30 and it still is snowing but larger flakes now. We had an inch of new snow overnight by 7:30 AM. this morning. The snow though still only measured 5" but at least the moisture content went up because of the density of the remaining falling snow and we maintained 5" covering and .33" to melt in with some more coming. |

Excuse me for being late, overslept, had to let dogs out in the middle of the night. It again was snowing at 7:30 AM. yesterday and it continued for close to 3.5 hours plus came down a little heavier and larger flake as time went on but was still on the light side. The amount of snow that fell during the daylight hours was about 1.1" to 1.3".The snow that fell last night was still basically smaller flaked and accumulated densely. I checked several areas plus our trailer this AM. and the common theme was still 5", snow must have packed as it fell plus with the wind. There are 1' and larger drifts everywhere. The wind was generally avg.-14 mph. gusting to-20 mph. . The high yesterday was 20 degrees and at midnight it was 4 degrees and this AM. @ 7:30 was 1 degree but it briefly fell to 0.0 degrees shortly after. Not sure why the 3.4" core came out to .39", I double checked, and the 5" core came out to .40" but the 3 day liquid total came out to .45" so that one make sense. |

Last night frost started forming again and by 9:00 PM. it was 24 degrees and 99% humidity but basically clear out. This AM. it was almost 40 degrees and you could still see pockets/areas of thick white frost, almost like snow, scatterted around. It got to 24 degrees last night. We still have decent areas of snow and depth in shaded areas. Yesterday AM. after 7:30 AM. we had some drizzle but a little more snow, small flake, for almost a couple hours. |

Rain started close to 2:20 PM. yesterday, at 44 degrees temp. . At 3:20 PM. we had a few wet flakes mix with the larger drops of rain that fell, at 37 degrees. Around or after 5:00 PM. at 33 degrees temp. we had light wet snow falling that was brief. This AM. we had freezing drizzle making our decks slick and grass lightly crunchy, light fog also. We still have a little old snow left in highly shaded spots. |

The precipitation start time is a carry over from yesterdays ending or it has continued through observation time. Yesterday AM. it was freezing drizzle then around 10:00 AM. it snowed enough to lightly dust the ground on top of a thin glaze of ice. It then got lighter out late AM. to early PM. and temp. got close to 32 degrees melting the ice on the decks and the dusting of snow. The snow also turned to more of a snow granule mixed with drizzle or very light rain or rain and snow mixed. It continued into the evening when light flurries started again. By about 10:00 PM. or later it became more of a light snow to snow showers. It was snowing decently at 6:00 AM. this AM. and continued until almost 7:30 AM. when it became more showery. Still snowing now. |

The start time of the precipitation is fairly accurate. The precipitation started mostly as a wind driven sleet with a little rain @ 41 degrees, by the time it ended it was 33 degrees. The sleet shortly mixed with and then changed to snow. Now we have this icy snowy crust on top of old snow. The wind during the event was gusting to 35mph. |

While I was at the Walmart in Falcon yesterday at about 12:15 PM. I could see clouds rapidly coming in from the NNW. and what looked to contain snow especially to the NW. close to the mountains. In a few minutes the clouds spread out over us and snow/ball snow started falling at 46 degrees which quickly fell to 43 degrees. I got home by 12:30 PM. but did not see any snow only. wind gusting out of the WNW. to NW. at 35 mph. . The highest winds I saw was 36 mph. but it gusted to 35 and 36 mph. several times through the afternoon out of the west. |

I measured the snow about 7:20 AM. this AM. but had to clean truck and rush off for another Doc. appt. . I melted the snow in the gauge @ 10:00 AM. when I got back. We had no rain just snow at 5:15 PM. yesterday but it was melting on contact for a short time, half hour later the ground was white. I had kept checking outside because the radar was showing precipitation for us but it was not reaching the ground until humidity got in the 80's. A couple hours before the snow the outside temp. rose to 48 degrees. |

The precipitation yesterday started out as a fine mist close to 9:00 AM. but it quickly changed to snow grains. Then later before 12:00 PM. a fairly heavy drizzle mixed in with the snow grains and shortly after 12:00 PM. the roads started to get slick. Later the snow grains stated to change to ball snow in the heavier showers. It was close to 3:00 PM. when I first saw normal snow flakes and close to 6:00 PM. or shortly after it started snowing heavier with larger flakes. By close to 1.5 hours later we had about an inch of snow. Most of the snow fell in the 8 to 16 degree range and it got to 2.5 degrees early this AM. Also around 3:00 PM. yesterday my weather station recorded a 48 degree drop between Sunday and Monday @ same time. |

I saw what looked like small ice crystals falling out of the fog early this AM. in our floodlights. It looks like the snow absorbed some moisture out of the fog by my core reading. The actual snow measurement was 2.3". We had a low this AM. of -6.5 degrees. We also had real light tiny flake snow flurries/light snow mostly the early half of yesterday. |

The snow begin yesterday shortly before 3:30 PM. and it had all been fairly light snow with only barely a 1/2" by 9:00 PM. yesterday. A couple minutes before I went out to do my measurement and retrieve the gauge it started snowing moderately with nice sized flakes but now is a small sized flake light snow but is coming down thicker than last night, we now have at least an inch of new snow. |

I was measuring in slow mode, sore and tired from shoveling snow. I also did cores samples 2 times to make sure it was right. Must have had high moisture content in the air last night and snow absorbed it. Actual total snow measurement was 5.25". The snow also packed down some for last night total snow was 6". High was 32 degrees yesterday and we had minor melting in non shaded areas. The multiple times I did the core sample for the total amount of snow on the ground I took the lightest of three and should have used the middle reading. I just could not believe the liquid ratio but it did warm to 32 degrees and it snowed hard for over an hour with huge flakes @ 28 degrees and then saw another Peyton station with close to same reading. he three readings were .63" 1st. time then .60" the 2nd time and then the 3rd reading was .58" . I thought after the fact each time got warmer and some snow probably melted so I am going to change to 1st. reading.

It started snowing very lightly shortly before 10:00 AM. yesterday and about 20 min. later it was snowing a little heavier because larger flakes, nickel to almost quarter size, lightly mixed in. That lasted for a little over an hour it became all smaller flaked but slightly more dense, still fairly light snow falling. The gauge measurement was just under .005". I measured the new snow yesterday at 1:30 PM. . It had dusted the ground but shortly later sun peaked out and most melted in sunny areas. |

The snow started at 1:00 PM. almost to the second. It started coming down harder with big flakes like it is now. That lasted until about 3:30 PM. and then continued lighter until just shy of 4:00 PM. yesterday and by then we had a 1/2" of now on the ground which was all white. I thought it was a prelude of what was to come. Now @ 8:13 AM. the snow as finally lightened up and we are close to 6" of snow now from the looks of it. The snow started to pick up again yesterday evening sometime between 6:00 and 6:30 PM. and soon was coming down moderate to hard at times with the very large fluffy flakes and almost every time I looked out it was snowing like that, which was quite a few times. The snow on the ground is very fluffy and light. The temp. when it started at 1:00 M. yesterday was falling quickly, front, from a high of 39 degrees to by 1:00 PM. it was 28 degrees and then 25 degrees shortly after. Last nights snow started @ 22 degrees and ended @ 17 degrees this morning by 7:00 AM. |

By 8:15 AM. yesterday we had a total of 6" of new very fluffy snow. It was beautiful outside with the super fluff snow. But by 11:00 AM. the sun was shinning through the clouds at times even though it was still snowing large wet flakes by that time and the temp. had temporarily spiked to 34 degrees before dropping back to 29 degrees. The warmer temp. and the large wet flakes had compacted/condensed the snow plus some melting was going on as the gutters were flowing and the snow then only measured 3" to 4" in depth just like that. Plus it continued to shrink until mid afternoon when the clouds thickened back up and it started snowing smaller grainy snowflakes, shaped like a tiny daisy flower. The large flakes quit by sometime around noon. I took a reading of the rain gauge at 2:30 PM. and it read only .04" but the amount and time it snowed the large flakes at a light to mostly moderate amount I thought for sure we would get another inch of snow but there was no way to tell. The type of grainy wet flake we were getting in the afternoon, that whitened the ground and measured .1" to .2" changed to regular small round snow grains and then the fog rolled in. We are totally covered in snow, we were still covered almost 50% in 2" to 5" old snow depending on how much sun shined on those areas before the storm now have 3" to 6", with snow on the trees and add the whore frost from the fog it's quite picturesque outside. We had another .01" of precipitation after 2:30 PM. yesterday through to 7:30 AM. this morning. |

While I was up close to 5:00 AM. I noticed the wind was howling out of the north 16 mph. to 19 mph. and the temp. was 35.5 degrees. By 6:10 AM., with the wind still howling, light snow grains and balled snow was coming down and the temp. then was 35 degrees. It was enough to put down a dusting that covered everything, bare ground included. Now the wind is still howling and the temp. is 33.8 degrees and still about half the light skiff on the ground is still there. After a bit this AM. the precipitation turned to snow but then the sun came out for about 50 min. but it was still snowing. Now the sun is gone again but half and it is still flurrying but half the skiff still survived. Point is the ground is not as warm as everyone thinks. The night before last night the ground was about rock hard at 35 degrees at dusk, places that had been sloppy , muddy and puddles of water that I could walk on and my feet stayed clean. |

The deck was already slick with a thin coating of ice by 6:30 AM. yesterday from freezing drizzle and shortly after, before 7:00 AM., snow grains and ball snow, snow pellets, started falling. Bigger flakes started mixing in just after 8:00 AM. and after 8:30 it started to snow heavier. Through out the day we had showery snow except for the heavier snow in the AM., lasted a little more than an hour, most of the snow that fell during the storm was snow grains and balled snow with at times regular flakes mixed in during the heavier showers. Close to 9:00 PM. last night we noticed that all that was coming down was heavy freezing drizzle and no snow. The last time I noticed snow last night as close to 8:00 PM. Yesterdays high was a very brief 31 degrees. Most of the day stayed around 28 degrees. This morning right after sunrise it got 19 degrees and now its 26 degrees. The Mrs. helped me with the core sample. Yesterday's AM. low was 27 degrees. At 12:30PM. yesterday I measured 1.5" of snow. The wind came out of the south to SE. the first half of the day and then it came out of the SE. to east the 2nd. half of the day, generally.

We had 1.7 " of snow by close to 12:05 PM. yesterday and then the snow became more showery and the sun was glowing through the clouds and the snow started melting faster than it could accumulate. It melted to around an inch or slightly less. By then the winds were howling 24 mph. avg. gusting to 36 mph. fairly consistent the rest of the day, was out of the NW. to north most of the time. My auto rain gauge measured .02" before it froze up. The snow about stopped close to 7:20 PM. yesterday but then a little later it started with the light snow showers again and was even snowing the small fine snow grains again this AM. @ 7:30 AM. with a slight fog. We have several snow drifts that looked to be up to 2' deep but had 6 turkeys hanging out in the area so did not measure. The first we saw snow or any precipitation was 6:33 PM. yesterday at 24 degrees outside. It snowed for approx. 20 min. then backed off until approx. 7:20 PM. then it continued to snow lightly to maybe moderately for short periods that I saw. By 9:30 PM. there was only a dusting of snow on the ground. By approx. 7:30 PM. it was 23 degrees outside and by midnight it was 19 degrees and by 6:00 AM. this morning it was 15 degrees outside. Most of the snow fell overnight and I did not see much evidence of drifting this morning nor any tree damage or sagging pine branches thankfully. |

We continued to have light flurries and snow showers yesterday with a few showers briefly approaching moderate intensity. I first noticed it was snowing moderately around 7:30 PM. yesterday evening when I let the dog out. The Mrs. let the dog out again close to 9:30 PM. and when he was let back in he was covered and soaking wet, it was snowing a little heavier. Yesterday's high was briefly 32 degrees, most of the day was spent in the low to mid 20's. It got to 15 degrees last night and it's 21 degrees now. The snow was light and fluffy. |

This was a hard one. We only have 1" to 2" on the ground now basically. The temp. got to 37 degrees for a high yesterday for 2 to 3 hrs. before and afternoon, mostly before. Otherwise the temp. hung around the mid 20's for the most part. All of the snow we got the night of 12th and yesterday through early morning 10:30 AM., was about 4" on the ground, melted on the 2.5 acres around the house. The open fields all around were still white with 1" to 3" of snow. Maybe warmth from the trees and shrubbery starting to become active and reflection warmed the area enough to help melting, we have a lot of plant life in the 2.5 acres. It was a stark contrast with surrounding areas and around home. I found some protected areas that still had 4.8" to 4.9" and got the core sample from there though I believe if all had not melted we would've had 5" to 5.1" of snow total. |

We had very light tiny snow flake or grains, too small to tell the difference, yesterday AM. about the time to check the gauge. Then around 11:30 AM. to 11:45 AM. yesterday it would very occasionally spit a dime sized flake or smaller. It did not truly start snowing until just after 2:00 PM.. The snow continued to fall as sporadic showers until I last saw about 9:30 PM. last night. |

Again as I exit the garage to feed the birds and change their water I get blasted, as I open the door, by a very close ground to cloud crack of lightning at about 1:34 PM. A couple seconds later what looked to be soft hail falling lightly was, some at first was slightly rolled, was just very large snow flakes that were melting around the edges. I was easily able to inspect them as and after they fell slowly and lightly. They where the size of quarters to mostly penny and nickle size. That all lasted 2 to 3 min. then it changed to a moderate rain with large drops for another couple min. then very light rain for a little more than a couple hours. From the first heavier burst of moisture we got .01" precipitation and another .01" from the rest of the time until I checked and emptied the gauge @ 5:30 PM. . Since then I did not witness any more precipitation and the gauge was dry this AM. . After the 1st. blast of lightning, I thought I heard a faint cloud to cloud rumble to our SW. a few min. before, there was a second crack of ground to cloud/cloud to ground lightning from the same cell but close to a mile to our NE. . I heard six more cracks/rumbles of lightning from the same storm as it moved off to the NE. |

The thunder storms rain started close to a half hour later than the day before and came down a little harder briefly. The main part of the storm passed by on the SW. side of us and like the day before we got some spill over out of the tops of the storm, large melting snow flakes with some rolling up into balled snow and bouncing on the surfaces they land and others just falling as melted flakes that I could easily see the lakes structure. We continued to get widely scattered showers as the day, evening and overnight went on, we had ice on the decks this AM. with a few tiny snowflakes embedded in the ice. I checked and emptied the gauge yesterday @ 6:30 PM. but it was dry this AM. Time to put the guts back in the gauge but it will snow as soon as I do. There was again plenty of thunder with yesterday's storms just not so close. |

The starting time of precipitation is very accurate but the heavier precip. is the approx. time. We had a shorter decent shower around 6:30 PM. but the steadier more moderate to heavier rain started after 7:30 PM. and lasted through and past 9:00 PM. yesterday. It was almost a consistent lighter rain with heavier showers mixed in. I had seen a bit of lightning to our SW. to WSW. over approx. 1.5 hours and it finally reached us after 7:30 PM. or a little later but the lightning and thunder had become more sporadic. The first lightning strike yesterday was 3:26 PM. and it was fairly close on our east side. Heard a few more as storm moved off with others. |

We had a few more heavy burst of rain and lightning for approximately 1/2 hrs. then about 40 min. from start of the stormy weather we had another short heavy burst and a few rumbles thunder for another 5 to 10 min. . The ending time of precipitation was approx. the other times were accurate. We had 2 to 3 inches of hail, 2.50" average, on the level. We still have close to .25" covering this AM . More hail than rain fell and was hard on my deciduous trees and shrubs. Hail was mostly pea to chickpea size. There was a lot of close lightning and the temp. fell to 35 degrees during the storm plus 2 other times and we had wet snow mix in on about 3 occasions. Great moisture but could leave hail behind. I forgot to mention the insides to the gauge, tube and funnel, were in during entire event. At first there was heavy rain with only and occasional bb size hail so I left gauge alone but then about 5 min. later it pounded and I tried to get to the gauge but with 20 mph. wind it hurt to much plus some hail was about dime to penny size. So we most likely had at least 2" or more of precipitation. Radar est. were close. |

The rain and some thunder started a little before 5:00 PM and ended a little after 6:00 PM. The rain drops in the showers were quite large and dewpoints were running in the mid 40's to low 50's before storms and low to mid 50's during storms. Fast motion of storms was limiting factor of rain amounts. |

I left in my truck shortly before storm started to take cover under some protection from large hail. Mrs. was here and recorded start time and hail. Most of hail was pea to marble size with sporadic ping pong ball size that fell. When I got back at 5:30 PM it was still raining and she said it had just recently stopped the heavy precipitation. There was still some hail on the ground mostly in piles with a slight covering covering turf areas. The hail was deeper, 4" to 5", looking along Falcon highway between Goodfortune rd. and McCandlish rd. less than a 1/2 mile from us. No hail left this AM. There was some leaf liter, not as much as previous hail storm about 5 to 6 wks. ago with 1.79" storm. Again I forgot and left tube and funnel in rain gauge so our total was more likely more. We for the year now have had at least 6.13" if not more. 1.01" fell from 1st. 2 storms, approx. .87" 1st. and .20 smaller storm. and another .06" fell overnight. We have had more precipitation than 6.13", I forgot to add the multi-day precip. total of .53" plus 6.13" equals 6.66". |

We had a lot of close lightning for about 40 to 45 min. . We had hail, BB size max, shortly after the heavy rain started and it lasted only 35 to 40 seconds. I checked the rain gauge at 3:40 PM. right as heavy rain was ending, the gauge with the insides, and it read .60 inches. The surrounding ground and the fields all had water standing on them at about 3". Tennis shoes would have been soaked but Gore-Tex hiking boots did fine. You could tell vehicles and an ambulance were hitting some high water by the sound and all the splash and froth and slow downs. At 6:05 PM. I checked both gauges again, we had more rain, and the gauge with insides had .81" and the gauge without insides read
.85". we had a little more rain overnight but not quite enough to add another hundredth of an inch. |

Another nice soaking rain. I was rushing to finish replenishing bird feeders before rain started when I felt the first drops from clouds over head. The main storms were just west to SW. thunder and all, but those storms sent an outflow to the east and a large area extending from our NE. to our SE. grew very black and began thundering a lot. Then soon you could see the heavy rain getting closer and you could see lightning bolts extending to the ground. The storms just kept building our way until it started pouring rain. It has been so beautifully green here this whole year as Mrs. kept commenting, unusual. Her son and wife came to visit and his wife commented how beautifully green it was and said it was even greener here than in Wisconsin from where she was from. It has only slightly and briefly tinged here 3 to 4 times this year during hot windy dry days but would green right back up as evening came and through the next day unless it was hot dry and windy again. |

I was falling asleep as this one came in but remember hearing thunder about 4 times and seeing flashes of lightning then pounding hard rain that sounded like it may have had small hail in it but not sure. I checked he radar on my phone and the storm looked small and fast moving out of the north so I was pleasantly surprised at the amount we got. Also checked open rain gauge and it was just a hair less, evaporation so maybe no hail. |

Had a few large drops fall from the top of an old t-storm that had been to our north at 2:03 PM. We had some more close to an hour later from another top that belonged to an aging storm from our NNW. Then again later closer to 5 PM. but before that had formed about due north of us and passed just east of us, it gave us the most of all the sprinkles. It all did help cool us from our 91 degree high. |

The first heavy rain came with no wind, almost calm. It appeared to come from the top of a storm that was on our east side. The drops were huge and icy stinging a little when they hit my back and cracking a little when the hit a plastic jug I was carrying but I never saw any hail r ice pellets hitting the deck. That storm measured .36". It also had a lot of cloud to cloud lightning the first at 3:47 PM. . One strike sounded like it could of been cloud and ground . I counted 8 strikes by 3:55 PM. and then lost count but believe there was 2 to 3 more strikes. The second storm came with 28 mph. avg. to 39 mph. gusting winds and a lot of cloud/ground lightning just on the west side of us following a higher ridgeline. Watched it all from our bay window but sitting way back, it was intense. Both sets of storms came from the NNW. The moisture was great and did not see any hail and it cleaned of my truck. |
