We were away. Our son came by mid morning Oct 111 and got a 2-day storm total (2.5" snow , 0.22" water) and this is prorated to daily based on nearby reports) No core samples taken. We heard that the storm began with rain, lightning and thunder and changed quickly to graupel and then later to all snow. Low temperature dropped to near 20f or colder teens -- freeze drying leaves and clobbering fall gardens |

Mostly cloudy with a few brief periods of sunshine. Cool day with a high in the low 60s with periods of light sprinkles and then a couple thunder showers in the afternoon and evening dropping most of the rain especially in the mid afternoon storm. Rain ended after 8 PM partially clearing overnight low in the mid to upper 40s. Crisp clear and dryer air this morning as the air mass has changed. Most exposed gauge read nearly 0.36" Gate post gauge read 0.35. Gauge in yard only read 0.28" Trees blocked that gauge as winds were strong from the NW during that storm. |

Wild weather day -- pleasant until mid afternoon, then storms gathered over the mountains moving S to N but eventually spilling out - all the time accompanied by strong NW winds to at least 40 mph at times Lively lightning after 9 PM but especially 10 - 10:30 About 4 minutes of smallish hard hail -- almost enough to cover the ground but doing very little damage. Then steady, cold rain much of the night. Huge differences in my rain gauge catch depending on gauge location ranging from 0.22" from gauge closest to house but now blocked by trees from a strong NW wind up to 0.48" for my gauge by the garden. Interesting cool breezy day with active convection and very low cloud bases. High temperature reached the upper 70s. Several rumbles of thunder, some quite loud, from early afternoon through evening with large raindrops now and then but never really got going. Had to round up to get .03 . Clearing after 8 PM and delightfully cool calm night with low in the low 50s. Celebrated our daughter’s 35th birthday one day early with an evening campfire with friends and family out in our pasture. Even the mosquitoes behaved well, the grasshoppers seem to be sleeping. |

Delayed data entry. We were away and our son took observations but a bit late 2-day total was 1.44" Sep 7 was a memorable Labor Day with wild fire smoke so thick that the chickens roosted again before noon and streetlights came on. Quite a bit of ash fell, too. Then dramatic cold front arrived in the evening and rain began by midnight. High yesterday only near 70f due to dense smoke but nearby areas were at or above 90F. Low 30s by morning with about 0.3' of snow accumulated on elevated and/or grassy surfaces. Earlist snow we know of here. Dark, cold and wet this AM -- a welcome change SWE values estimated -- could be higher. Still snowing sloppy slush at 8 am this morning. |

Fortunately, very little tree damage as temperatures stayed a bit warmer than predicted. High mid 30s and low near 30F. We were out of town for this whole event and our son took the observations -- and I entered them now over a month later. We've gone weeks now since then with no measurable precip. |
