Very windy last night, particularly between 9 and 10 PM. Today was trash pickup day and our yard waste and regular trash bins got blown over. Luckily very little spilled and dispersed. Our neighbor across the street to the east was not so lucky. She was picking up lots of blown trash. On my ride in this morning, I saw 3 trash bins blown over. |

At 7:30 last night, I measured 6.5” with a liquid equivalent of 0.45 in the gauge and 0.46 in the core (used 0.46). From this morning, the gauge was full and melted to 0.79”. I measured 9” for the core of new snow that melted to 0.84”. I’m using the core. There is a lot of snow and it is heavy. From shoveling - it seems to be setting up hard already in many places (that’s the best way to describe it). It sticks to the shovel too. A little windy, not too bad yet. |

This was a challenging measurement because it started snowing last night and wasn't too windy and then it got windy and was blowing snow. The gauge melted to 0.8, my usual place/board for the core had 0.4"snow and melted to 0.6, another spot that had 1" new that included new and windblown snow melted to 0.21. Looking at neighbors values, I think the 0.21 is too high and the core is low. So I'll go with an average depth of 0.7" new and 0.09 (one hundredth more than my gauge. The reasoning: most of the snow fell straight down and I don't think the wind blew in more snow, but perhaps removed by evaporation. |

Rain - my husband woke up with the wind and rain against the window. He thought it was around 4 AM. Christman field nearby measured some precip at 4:30, so that's close. The ground was still wet this morning. I haven't had a chance to go around the yard and measure various snow depths to get an average. There was 6" near the gauge in the yard; no more snow under the trees, likely a little less snow on the west side of the yard and more on the east side of the yard. Icy spots on north facing aspects. |

There is already wind, blowing snow to places that don’t normally get snow or get wet from rain (like on and beyond the picnic table under our covered family area on the west side of the garage). The gauge melted to 0.08”, the core (1.2”) melted to 0.11”. I’m reporting the core measurement as there were places that measured 1” and others that measured 1.5” and this seems like a good average. We still have quite a bit of snow cover in the yard from the storm right before Thanksgiving. I’ll have to get out and measure it. It’s gone from under trees, but is probably 1-4” on the grass in places. Nice winter cover - we needed that after a dry fall. |

When I hang laundry, I often put my basket on a little camp stool that has wooden legs and a canvas seat. There were two short bursts of snow the first at 4:20 and the second one ~20 or 30 minutes later. I’m remembering the first one better because I was waiting for Sam’s school bus to get home :)
It was all snow, and since the ground and surfaces were warm, the first one melted. The second one started sticking to grass and to surfaces that are generally shaded and cool off quickly, like the big plastic garbage bin, the metal railing, and the woody things. We had flurries off and on for a little while. Later in the evening, after we got home from the basketball game at 8, I checked the gauge. There was a thin layer of ice and when melted, measured 0.01. This morning, there was frost too. It was beautiful. I’ve not been reporting on the snow on the ground (sorry). We still have a trace in the yard. A number of small patches that are shaded and not from shoveled snow, although they likely had a boost from wind blown snow back in December (the snow from the storm before Thanksgiving and those few other instances). |

We had an event in Greeley yesterday late afternoon and were returning between 6:30 and 7:30. The northerly wind picked up as we headed north on I-25 from US-34, light rain and snow sprinkled the windshield as we headed from I-25 into Ft. Collins on hwy 14, and snow picked up earnest as we hit the western part of town at Taft - roads were wet. I was glad it wasn't like the previous evening. |

At Rain changed to snow between 10 and 11 AM. At noon there was 0.31 liquid and a little slush in the gauge. 0.2” snow on the grass. At 5:15 PM, there was 4.0” of snow and the core melted to 0.33. The gauge had a snow collar on it and the contents melted to 0.28. I used the core for the total. After this, the snowfall was very light. Overnight there was an additional 0.5” that melted to 0.06. Spring snow is challenging to measure. The moisture is great though :) |

Started raining with graupel ~3:45 PM yesterday, then mostly snow by 4:15. The ground and surface are warm, so no snow accumulating. There was a break in precipitation and we went for a walk at ~4:30. So snow off and on through the evening. Windy this morning and I forgot to check the gauge last night, so we may have received more and it evaporated. |

Gauge melted to 0.07 and was “drifted”. The core melted to 0.11. I used the core as it seemed more representative. The snow on the concrete was less because of warm surfaces that melted and then refrozen. The board was dry underneath the snow, indicating the temperature got cold enough for the wood to “equilibrate” and all the precip fell as snow. |

Rain/snow mix starting ~4:30 PM - enough to wet the ground. I didn't see any accumulating on the ground before heading to sleep ~9:30. Very bright at 2 AM so I looked out the window and it looked like 4+". This morning I measured 9.2" that melted to 1.12. The gauge had bridged over. It melted to 0.98. I went with the core value Lots of good moisture - although the snow is heavy. Good thing most trees have not budded out. |

Cloudy all day. The snow stopped some time in the afternoon, we saw a couple patches of blue sky after 6PM. I checked the gauge and core at 5:50 PM. The gauge had 3/4 water and 1/4 slush and measured 0.25” liquid. The core at 4” melted to 0.33. No new measurable snow overnight. There was 12” remaining on the ground in the morning, I used the core value. There was really only one period where the wind picked up (late morning) and given the warm ground, the amount of snow everywhere, and no better place to do a second measurement for additional snow since the morning, this seemed the more representative value. |

A trace of rain throughout the afternoon. I had some laundry out and was paying attention in case I needed to quickly rescue it. I was sitting in my chair, sensing the sun peaking through the clouds, coming in the window, making the room bright. I turned my head To looks and saw it was raining! Enough to get the ground wet and create a few small puddles. With all the melting that occurred, there still was quite a bit of snow around the house at the end of the day. |

Additional comment: We took a walk between ~7:30 and 8:30 and initially it looked like it was clearing up and then we saw more cloud cover on the horizon. A few of the clouds were showing quick development and I commented to my husband that we may want to watch if any of those developed further. As I looked at my cocorahs highest precip days, the highest was on 21 July 2009. The thunderstorm came up after dark ~10PM. ..and it is near the end of July... No wonder I was a bit more anxious. |

Wild 24 hours. A trace of measureable forest ash in the morning. Thick smoke plume from the Cameron Peak fire over Ft. Collins the entire day. Temperatures stayed on the cool side (compared to yesterday); only reaching to low 70s in the mid-late afternoon. Steady forest ash fall throughout the day. In the late afternoon when the winds picked up, there was blowing ash. At ~7:30 PM, the ash accumulated to 0.1 in the gauge and I changed out the gauge. I measured 0.3” snow this morning on a wood surface. Concrete surfaces were not accumulating snow. There was 0.35” liquid in the center funnel. After the snow melted in the funnel, the total was 0.46, so 0.11 from the snow. I thought I was starting to get ahead of the grasshoppers and the deer with garden issues. So much for tomatoes this year. |

I pulled the gauge in yesterday evening at 8 PM. A wood surface had 4" of new snow on it. The gauge melted to .72". This morning, there was an additional 1" of snow that melted to 0.11". Total = 0.83. One location on a board that includes snow from yesterday morning plus this morning had a depth of 4.5" and melted to 0.92. That is close to the total snow for the past 2 days that was estimated from the regular gauge (=0.94) . We had a smaller branch ~1” diameter break off from the trumpet creeper and a larger branch ~6” diameter break off a honeylocust tree. There were multiple branches down within the neighborhood (of a couple blocks). We had power rolls at the house, nothing extensive although we did receive multiple emails at different times from Xcel about power being out in the area. |
