Absolutely crazy day. Snowfall continued through 7:00 a.m. yesterday morning until about 9:15 a.m. It seemed that the storm was over. BUT, it started raining at about 12:30 p.m., and at times it was hard rain. Then we had rain/snow mix, blizzard-like snow blowing sideways, more hard rain, more blizzard through the afternoon and evening. It was difficult to measure all of it because with the blizzard, nothing was accumulating and nothing was going in the gauge. I also missed about 15 minutes of the rain and rain snow mix in the afternoon as I hadn't put the gauge back outside! Arrrghhhh! I've estimated a little bit in the extra precipitation. This was the craziest weather day I can ever remember for the end of November. |

Snow fell off and on during the day, beginning shortly after 7:00 a.m. with a few random flakes, then in more earnest about 8:00 a.m. Nothing lasted very long during the day. In late afternoon, early evening snow began falling and covering the ground. Accumulation was 0.5 inch by 7:30 p.m. and by 11:00 p.m. snow accumulation totaled 1-1/8 (1.1) inches. Snow fell very lightly overnight and by 7:00 a.m. this morning the accumulation totaled between 1-3/16 and 1-1/4 inches (1.2 inches). Moisture content in the outer shell yielded halfway between 0.04 and 0.05 so I'm rounding it up to 0.05 of an inch. |

During the hailstorm that happened about 2:30 yesterday afternoon, a total of 0.03 of moisture accumulated in the gauge. Hail measured 3/8 to 1/2 inch in size, most of it the larger size. The hail here in town was not as bad as it was about a mile and a half east of here. The storm was short. It began about 2:30 and the hail lasted about six minutes. The rain did not last much longer. I filed a hail report yesterday afternoon. |

Very small hail started very slowly and intermittently at about 3:40 p.m. Rain started about two minutes later. The rain became very heavy and the heaviest downpour lasted about 15 minutes. Hail returned shortly after the downpour began, but the hail, very small and none of which could be kept or measured, lasted only about a minute. The 15 minute downpour produced 0.20 of an inch of precipitation. Rain continued fairly steadily but much more lightly for about 45 minutes resulting in another 0.20 of an inch of moisture. There were other short periods of light rain for about another hour producing another 0.03 of an inch. The precipitation had stopped by 6:00 p.m. The total in the rain gauge measured 0.43 of an inch of moisture. |

As of 5:00 p.m. yesterday, the gauge measured 0.13 of rain with snow beginning to mix in. At 5:45 when I removed the inner tube and funnel, the gauge had accumulated 0.135 or 0.14 total. The snow removed at the top had a moisture content of 0.09.
The snow depth was recorded at the following times:
6:00 p.m.: 3/8 = 0.375 = 0.4 of an inch;
7:00 p.m.: 1-5/8 = 1.625 = 1.6 inches;
8:20 p.m.: 4.0 inches;
9:00 p.m.: 4.25 = 4.3 inches;
10:00 p.m.: 4.625 = 4.6 inches [snow cleared off];
5:00 a.m.: additional 1.5 inches measured;
6:45 a.m.: additional increased to 1.75 or 1.8 inches. The total snow at that time was 6.4 inches. Overnight, the total snow on ground had settled to 6.0 inches.
Tree damage throughout the town of Saguache and some home damage has been reported. Limbs and branches are down everywhere throughout the town. Some power lines are down and there is reported vehicle damage as well.

Light snow continued for an hour or more after 7:00 a.m. yesterday. By 9:00 yesterday morning, 1/4 (0.25 = 0.3) of an inch of snow accumulated before it started melting. No more precipitation the rest of the day. Overnight it snowed and rained. It was raining at 6:30 a.m. but had stopped by 7:00. It's uncertain how much snow accumulated during the night with the rain on top. I measured one inch with the rain coming down. The total remaining on the ground, with rain falling, was 2.5 inches. The total new accumulation was probably more than 1.3 inches, but maybe not. The 1.3 is what I was able to measure. |
