Difficult to take any measurements for total snow on ground. Since the 11/26/19 and 12/6/19 storms the remaining snow has defrosted and refrozen so many times it is just solid ice difficult to remove with even with an ice chopper. Backyard Paths are dangerously slick. Even when it has been sunny the sun is never there long enough to melt all the way through. Glad we’ve hit the winter solstice. This reminds me of the winters in the 70’s here in CO where snow would fall,freeze, and ice ruts and ice would be there till Mar-May sometimes. Haven’t missed that AT ALL. |

Hard to take an accurate measurement of melted core of snow and ice left from 11/26/19 snowstorm and 12/6/19 rainstorm that froze into hunks of ice. Looks like snow but has refrozen so many times have to hack at it with a shovel blade. This situation reminds me of the winters in northern colorado in the 1970’s where snow would fall in Oct/Nov freeze and refreeze and ruts and piles wouldn’t be gone till March/April of the next year. Don’t miss that AT ALL but evidence of changes in weather patterns from climate change starting from long ago. |

At 6:45 pm a large plume of smoke could be seen from the Cameron Peak fire 192 miles west of this station. The cloud obscured the setting sun with an eery golden glow the rest of the evening. By 10:00 pm ash was falling from sky. Rising moon was blood red,stars obscured could see Jupiter from time to time. This morning for the 8:00 reading ash was coating horizontal surfaces. This a difficult report to write. Snow started w/a mix of rain/snow for nect 24 hrs. No measureable accumulation on grass, ground or snowboard. What was reported in new snow section was taken on a rail that sits near the rain gauge. Precip reported was that collected in the gauge as most accurate. |
