Well we did it - 0 for September. I reported 0.28 on 9/1
but that shower fell the afternoon before in August. Otherwise just lots of heat, no breezes to speak of and no relief seen until maybe this coming weekend. Everything not irrigated or watered is desiccated. leaves are falling, etc. |

Light rain falling as I type this report. It appears that our long dry spell will be broken today at 45 days.
General rain and thunderstorms appear very likely over all of south Georgia into tomorrow in advance of a cool front. Moving from west to east. |

Hurrah, the long dry spell was broken and in the best possible way - 7 hours of light to moderate rain, aka, a soaker! We did not experience any thunderstorm cells in our vicinity from 5 p.m. to about midnight altho there were some elsewhere. This rain covered almost all of Georgia south of Macon - very beneficial to late growth and finishing crops for farmers. |

Looks like the tropical whatever working its way up the Gulf of Mexico will track right over us. Fortunately it is fast moving or rain totals could be much higher than the 2+ inches predicted in our county tonight and tomorrow morning. Winds may be 20 - 30 as well at times. |

Well, this zero marks the end of a very dry period in this area of our station. Since 9/3 (89 days) I have recorded 79 zeros (or less than 0.05 in the gauge). There were only 3 days where rain total exceeded 0.5 inches! We are about 9 inches below average for the calendar year and Tallahassee, about 90 mile SW of us, is down around 19 inches.
Part of the reason that we have been so dry is that we completely missed precip from a number of thunderstorm lines which came through our area. |

Storm front yesterday evening produced heavy rain from about 6 to 7 p.m. with lighter rain until 10 p.m. We had heavy winds as the leading edge passed over and some lightning, but no severe weather. Total precip was likely somewhat higher but the winds were whipping around and horizontal in the leading edge. |

While we got very little precip a severe thunderstorm which spawned a probabletornado that moved SE across parts of Berrien, Lanier and Clinch counties also generated a lot of rain. Moody AFB, about six miles north of this station had 3/4 inch of rain even tho it was on the fringe of the thunderstorm and tornado path. All this took place around the 10 pm hour. So far I have not heard and reports of significant damage. This thunderstorm line was very unusual in that it was moving SE. Most common here is NE and sometimes E. |

Thankfully we were on the southern end of the thunderstorm and rain activity in GA. Only rained for about an hour around 5 a.m. with some lightning. Interesting rain distribution in GA with this system:
About 40 miles north rain totals were 1 to 3 inches
and further north, central GA had 5 inches and more, now hammering the Carolinas. |

We had four separate thunderstorm events yesterday and during the night. Fortunately, no wind to speak of with any of them. Event #1: Over a five hour period from 1:30 p.m. yesterday there were a series of lines that produced 1.98 inches. Event #2:A quick moving line produced very heavy rain and some lightning, 1.62 inches in 28 minutes!! Event #3 at midnight was a very active thunderstorm line with much lightning and some rain. We huddled in our safe place for this one.
Event #4 around the 2 a.m. hour was rain only. The total precip for #3 and #4 was 0.83 inches.
Wind damage and possible tornados hit other areas near us in south central GA |

Good news - bad news! Since we have only had 3/4 inches
the past 36 days the heavy rain yesterday afternoon was quite welcome - BUT - it all fell in about a 25 minute period from what I would call a cloud burst. I did go out and dry around in it, so got a nice car wash tho.
As a kicker, no possibility of rain for a least a week. |

From Cristobel bands we had rain most of the day yesterday and less during the evening giving this station a two day TS related total of 4.59. Forecast for later this week is more rain. Station in the south end of Lowndes County about 20 miles from us had nearly 9 inches for the two day period! |

Total from thunderstorm line passing east from about 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. yesterday. Leading edge had frequent lightning and some frisky winds for a short time. Looking at the weather forecast for the next week it appears that we will be moving to hot days with summertime afternoon thunderstorms. Even with some dry periods since the start of the year this station is nearing 30 inches of rain against a Prism yearly average of about 50 inches. |

Around the 6 p.m. there was a severe thunderstorm line
about 7 miles north of this station (north Lowndes County and the city Hahira) which dropped a lot more rain and winds caused power outages including a line
that dropped that crossed I-75 which was closed for a time. No winds here, just some rain. |
