Very light rain began at 5:25pm. Very hard rain lasted from 5:32 pm to 5:44 pm. During this 12-minute period, 0.38 inches of rain fell. Light rain continued until around 5:50, at which point the sky was blue again. Scattered drops of rain began to fall again around 8:15pm. Heavier thunderstorms moved in around 9pm and continued into the night.

A severe thunderstorm (strong winds, loud thunder, heavy rain and lightening) hit my station with hard rain starting at around 7:10pm. As of 7:45 pm, 0.58 inches of rain had fallen associated with this storm (0.58 inches in 35 minutes). This storm only produced another 0.02 inches after 7:45pm and no more storms developed.

After ominous warnings of major thunderstorms and a possible derecho, the storm blew in with strong winds at around 4pm. Unfortunately, I don’t have any detailed information because Evanston was issued a tornado warning, so I was hiding in my bathroom. When I emerged around 4:30, there were still occasional strong gusts of wind and some light rain was falling.
