Conditions at 5:25am here, 22º, near calm, heavy frost on outer gauge. Weather word for yesterday...WOW, heavy wet snowfall early afternoon with near blizzard like conditions with moderate snowfall and winds to 30-35 mph. Snowfall was blowing horizontally outside my Des Plains office window. Although very little on road way. Side walks, outside concrete stairs had to be swept and salted. My boards were lost in the snow pack as I did not mark them. I measured 3.0" off boards (once found) at 3 pm, 4" off taller grasses. Definitely was not ready for this. Total snowfall here, measured for observation was 3.3", although total depth (off lawn) larger for less melt off. All now frozen as expected low 20's. |

SPC updated area in Moderate risk by early afternoon, never an area to be in. Storms moved in very quickly by 3:30-3:45 pm with gusty, however sub severe winds 35-45 mph with heavy rainfall and local sirens went off. Stronger winds proceeded the initial squall with 40-50 mph winds and moderate rainfall. I secured all outdoor furniture, etc still grille was blown over. I expected to loose power and started my generator, thankfully not needed. No damage here, thanks to NWS and TV 9 updates of storm (Hamernik, Ivory). |
