Frost observation. Yes there was a frost but really low lying at my location. No damage to my fruit trees. My planted Cole crops showed no damage, although the Brussels Sprout plant's leaves did show some wilt, but no damage.
Frost was in low lying. My location is flat as a board. But some depression and where my truck or tractor drove in the grass and depressed it, that was frosted. So Frosted yes, but no frost damage to my flowering fruit trees, nor my Cole crops.
It was a gorgeous night and gorgeous morning.
Extra note on Frost: I had to make a 0630hrs trip to Waterloo. At the corner of Old Waterloo Road and Hamacher street, heading to Waterloo, the farm on the right cow pasture showed heavy frost on the pasture grass. |

Also no stray snow flakes were observed this morning. Weather radar did show a light patch moving over my area and Channel 4 St Louis weather said you may or may not see a lost snow flake floating through the air early this morning. I observed none. |

Although I used the below storm hours box to record, there was no significant weather. But I thought it important to record the rain event rather accurately.
The rain began 10 min past 6pm as a very light rain until 8pm. The rain barely making the concrete wet. My next visual was at 5am and was a nice rain fall. At 7am when I read my 2 gauges, the even rate, nice rain fall was continuing. Reading took at 7am is reported above. Tomorrow's reading will be this continuing rain of this morning at 7am till tomorrow at 7am. |

This rain measurement is a continued reading from 7am till approximately 8:30am. I was not home to capture end of rain. I left shortly after obtaining yesterday's 7am measurement. The rain quality for this period was a light rain.
I was unable to submit a Frost Report so we had 25% frost coverage. I would record as 10-15% coverage. Also, near record low temps of 36F degrees recorded at 4am, 5am. I found no damage to my fruit trees, cole crops and minimal of minimal damage to my tomatoes. |

Significant weather report recorded 1.31 inches in about a 11 minute deluge. FaceBook friends this morning said this event came through their areas of New Athens and Hecker Illinois. It was from the South, North Bound. Best I could tell direction, although my phone app said: ESE. Important note; the winds were extremely heavy. My south side house windows leaked.
A lot of rain was driven in. I have never had rain and wind event like this ever.
The rain fall recorded after the significant event was a measure of 0.65 of an inch. I totaled the two amounts for this 24hr period and equals 1.96 inches of rain.
I also entered unusual flooding below. Although this was only observed during the significant weather period.
The ground is saturated. Still have a corn field that the culvert can not handle and water has backed up. The ditches along the road are now easily shedding the rain away from road. Last night water was ditch to ditch across the road.
I been outside since 5:45am cleaning the lakes spillway. Rains from 5:45am until reading of the gauge were a even light rain.
I'd also add: I have a hand dug, brick lined 1890s well my house still uses. 50ft depth. The level was soil line even today. Over full. So there is either lots of water pressure in the area, or soil saturation is having water escape to the well. Path of least resistance. End of comments. |

3rd) At 7am I returned to read the gauge, 0.12 of an inch was recorded. Between events I empty the gauge.

At 2:30pm 29 July rain began. Unknow when stopped. I read the gauge at 4:00pm and the reading was 0.24 of an inch. I emptied the gauge.
This morning at 7:00am the gauge read 0.51 of an inch. This reading was from an emptied gauge at 4pm till the morning 7am reading.
The total rain fall for the 24hr period was 0.75 of an inch.
I will note that at the 7am reading a nice rain was falling. |

The first reading at about 7:30pm was after and it was safe from lightening to read the gauge. At about 6pm (ish) a heck of a wind storm blew through. the reading from that event was 0.62 of an inch. The wind was blowing the rain sideways. Rainfall was heavy. Not sure of my gauges accuracy. The wind blew one of my wagons to within 4 feet of my rain gauge. I believe a large amount of wind blown rain probably over shot my rain gauge.
This morning at 7am. I read 0.17 of an inch of rain.
So for the 24hr period. This makes the total of 0.89 of an inch for the 24hr period.
To address flooding. Because of the driven rain, the public road in front of my house flooded over. Wind and an immediate deluge of rain fell. There was and still is a car that apparently hydroplaned off the road and into my neighboring soybean field. The car is still there, well off the paved road.
Do to the severe last minute, severe type weather warning received, I was preoccupied with protecting outside equipment and did not pay attention to the accuracy of time.

Not knowing if significant. My 28 Sept report was 0.48 of an inch of rain. Ground water level today was lower. My measurements consist from the ground's surface down to the surface of the well's surface water. In other words, I measure the column of air from the well's water surface up to the ground's surface. Today Sep29th measured 165 feet 6 inches. Sept 25th 161 feet 6 inches. Sept 15th 154 feet 0 inches. The ground water level is falling. The minimal rainfall IMHO is not replenishing the ground water in my area. |
