Power is still off as is TV, Charter in our case. When I enter back data in a minute, you will note that we only got 0.14” of rain from the storm but the wind, which I do not read, was strong enough to do a lot of tree damage and consequently communications failures in the Hampden, Monson and Wilbraham areas that I associate with.

The lawns nice grasses are long dead but the crabgrass keeps it green looking, with what little water Mother Nature has provided. A definite lack of acorns for at least two or three years now from our local Oak trees. A large hawk was setting in my neighbors dead tree this morning, The tree was killed by one of the tree bugs and I assume why the Oaks are not producing. We have, however, received enough rain that I don’t have to water the flower beds much now. Some trees are losing their green which I don’t know if it’s the season change or a lack of water. The rain we did receive in August did NOT alter the very low water in our two streams in town, the Scantic and the South Branch of the Mill Rv. Most of garden plants are done now except the butternut squash, which is the only late season plant I have.

We are on a well system so are cautious. I believe we avoided a frost this morning but not by much. I had covered a few flowing plants. Will see how they did. The garden is done except for a few remaining tomato plants but I think the last tomatoes will be picked and the plants pulled out today. Then the only vegetable left will be the butternut squash. Our nice White Burch is starting to drop some yellow leaves. Don’t know if it’s just time or early because of a lack of water? The two major streams in town as so low. The Scantic and the South Branch of the Mill River. There is hardly any flow in the Mill River near me, more of a moving swamp.

So more than half the rain fell between 4 and 8 am. Only heard one or two claps of distant thunder during the night and the wind was not strong but enough to blow down lots of leaves and pine needles.
