At 1135 just as I left (about 1-2 miles from this location) I saw snow flurries. My wife confirmed that the flurries began about the same time at this location. When I got outside of Poolesville, MD, about 8 miles from this location the flurries stopped and there was a light covering of white on the ground. The temp in the AM was around ~53°F and during the day yesterday it was in the 30s and 40s. This lower temp allowed for more CO2 be absorbed in the water. With the greater temp in the AM, I noticed a lot of CO2 bubbles at the edges and the top of the gauge, as would be expected. |

At 1345 there was briefly light rain, then I looked off due west toward the Potomac River and the rain was so heavy there that I could not see the trees, which were about 1/2 mile way at most. Then in one minute the heavy rain came. It stopped at 1355. There was a lot of thunder and 28 lightning strikes as recorded on the AcuRite Lightning Detector. This station recorded 0.07" more than the MD-MG-103. I am not surprised because as the rain came from the W, the house probably shielded some of the rain fall. I have seen that happen in the past. |

At 1146 the wind picked up, while the sky was very, very dark directly across the Potomac River, as though it was already raining there. At 1204 I left a few drops of rain. This lasted for no more than 4 or 5 minutes. The sun came out at 1220. |

As I left town going W on MD#107 I noticed that on the road there was evidence of a lot of rain coming down a few minutes earlier. When I was five miles from this location, there was no more sign of any pptn. At this location, the rain came quickly and swiftly at 1536. In checking the Acu-Rite Lightning detector and there were 198 strikes in one mile. At 1612, the rain subsided and I still heard thunder. At 1823 there were 58 lightning strikes at 1 mile and very, very heavy rain came with very heavy wind. The wind tore the solar cover off of the pool and knocked down one, twelve inch diameter tree by the pond. This is late a late report, but rain record was taken at 0730. A few drops occurred at 1336-1343. The big and heavy rain occurred at 1741-1802, then it stopped and the sun came out. It was all very strange. During the heavy rain there were 78 lightning strikes within 1 mile. Total strikes including after it stopped raining were 93. During the heavy rain at 1741, it was coming down so heavily that I was not able to see the trees about 1000 feet due W along the C&O Canal. |
