1/11/2020 9:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 7.0 1.79 Note: We did not receive more than a spattering of ice pellets in the mid-afternoon, and another spattered mix of freezing rain and rain around 5:30-ish pm. I chose a different spot this morning to collect my core which explains the increased depth and water content. Both weather centers report in at 33 degrees Fahrenheit. We are overcast in conjunction with a low ceiling and 3-5 mph winds passing through from 292 degrees west by northwest. We are receiving zero falling precipitation at this time, visibility stretches 6+ miles, and our RH hovers at 94%.

Our visibility stretches up to 4 miles, and our RH hovers at 97%. 10:22 am: We are currently receiving a steady flow of snow grains. 11:24 am: We began receiving a new strong and steady rain of snow grains. Most are a 16th to and eighth in diameter. My snowboard reports an additional collection of 1/4" since 9:00 am. 11:34 am: I am elevating the strength of this flurry to heavy. 12:27 pm: Unfortunately, I missed the point where this round of precipitation stopped. As of now, we are receiving no falling precipitation. 1:24 pm: We are receiving a steady flurry of snowflakes up to a half-inch in diameter. They are falling at a forty-five degree angle from a north by northeasterly direction. 2:07 pm: Our snowfall has slowly decreased to a light flurry of the past 20 minutes. 2:43 pm: No further precipitation at this time. 3:36 pm: We are now experiencing a new and light flurry of snowflakes roughly 1/16ths of an inch in diameter and many are clumped up in 1/4 inch diameters. We have 1/4 of an inch in the raincatcher, and 1/8th of an inch on the snowboard for the day thus far. 4:02 pm: All falling precipitation has ceased. 4:22 pm: We have 3-9 mph winds picking up, and the temp is 32 degrees Fahrenheit. Our visibility has increased to 10+ miles.

1/23/2020 9:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 12.0 2.45 The apparent discrepancy concerning the total depth between yesterday's report and todays is due to a depression in the snow field where I get my cores. We are mostly, 95%, cloudy; a fair mix of Cumulus, Altostratus, and Cirrus. We are being visited by 2 mph winds passing through from 288 degrees north by northwest. 2/3/2020 9:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 9.0 2.90 It should be noted that the total melted value is accurate. I too realize it keeps rising; though I submit no reports on new accumulations. Our yard isn't well graded, and, to be honest, here in Maine, the ground is constantly rising and falling. I have been keeping to the same snow field this year for if nothing else, at least that much remains consistent. Both weather centers report in at 28 degrees Fahrenheit. Also, for the record, I experienced something like a wintry-mix Haboob yesterday. It occurred around 12:45-1:15 pm. I don't know if anyone else reported it. I do know NOAA has a an observation station not more than ten miles from me. At the time, I was shoveling out my driveway, and I was almost done when it came out of nowhere. It dumped a mix of snow pellets and flakes intermittently along with strong gusts of wind and dimmed the surrounding area for the better part 15-20 minutes before it cleared right back up.
2/25/2020 9:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 15.0 4.58 Note: I had a feeling yesterday's total melted value was less than this mornings. I was right. I'm only bringing this up to assure you both measurements are valid. They come from the same snow field, and are within 2 feet of one another. There could have been more ice in today's core. I did have a bit more trouble getting the gauge all the way to the ground this morning. We are overcast with occasional visitations of dim sunlight, and our air is calm. Visibility stretches 10+ miles, and our RH hovers at 91%. 3/6/2020 9:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 13.0 4.88 The trend continues...I have no good explanation for it. Tomorrow I am going to collect a core from an entirely different snow field and compare that with the last few days. We've received so little precipitation the past three days, it's not even applicable. Our southern weather center reports in at 35 degrees Fahrenheit while the northern one reports in at 36 degrees. We are 97% overcast with up to 5 mph winds passing through while fluctuating between 309 degrees northwest to 349 degrees northwest. Our visibility stretches 10+ miles, and our RH hovers at 71%.
3/7/2020 9:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 11.5 3.46 Our southern weather center reports in at 27 degrees Fahrenheit while the northern one reports in at 22 degrees, and it feels more like 14 degrees. We are 99% clear with occasional patches of very thin cumulus drifting past in a north by northeast direction. We are experiencing 6-8 mph winds fluctuating wildly between 338 degrees north by northwest and 97 degrees east by south east. Our visibility stretches 10+ miles, and our RH hovers at 44%. Note: As promised, I did choose a different snow field this morning from the northern side of the house. I discovered 1.5 inches of ice pack at the base of my core which I chiseled out with a screwdriver. The numbers below have not provided the illumination I sought and expected. And I am still at a loss to explain the rising melt numbers from the previous site on the southern side. I lightly played with a hypothesis that perhaps the high levels of humidity have deposited extra water in the snow, but it's hard to swallow given there is no such condensation on my snow board, or anywhere on my weather station to corroborate the amount of condensation that would be required. Stranger still, one would think being on the north side of the house with far more shade and significantly less access to sunlight, there would be less overall melt; thereby, providing higher melted values and depth measurements. Lastly, I took a second depth measurement from the first snowfield: 12.0. So we've lost an additional inch in the last 24 hours. I'll collect another core from that site tomorrow and see what I come up with there. There has to be a reasonable explanation.....right? I apologize for the delay in getting this to you. Cheers-
3/8/2020 9:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 12.5 4.85 Our southern weather center reports in at 28 degrees Fahrenheit while the northern one reports in at 27 degrees. We are mostly, 85%, clear with islands of Cumulus drifting southeast. We are experiencing 3-5 mph winds passing through from 310 degrees northwest, our visibility stretches 10+ miles, and our RH hovers at 58%. Note: in consideration of yesterday's contemplation, I may have found the answer to our apparent contradiction. Unlike the snow field I used yesterday, which was mostly a soft, lighter, and dryer snow pack, the one I use more often is quite the opposite. This certainly would explain the higher water content in that it comprised of mostly grains collective grains of ice due to melting and freezing throughout the season. What it doesn't yet solve is the continued rise in water content where, in my estimation, it should be lowering. And, it finally has by 0.03."

3/20/2020 9:00 AM 0.16 M M 6.5 2.44 Our southern weather center reports in at 32 degrees Fahrenheit while the northern one reports in at 35 degrees. We are overcast with a lowered Cumulus ceiling no more than 150 feet above us. 2-5 mph winds pass through fluctuating between 282 north by northwest and 8 degrees due north. Our visibility stretches 2+ miles at best, and our RH hovers at 96%.
3/22/2020 9:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 7.5 2.57 Note: Difference in depth is due to having to choose a different snow field to gather my cores from. It is within 15 feet of the first, but as you can tell, the snow has not melted as quickly. This pattern will probably continue until I am forced to utilize the north side of our yard; provided of course it doesn't melt away before the south side. Our southern weather center reports in at 33 degrees Fahrenheit while the northern one reports in at 17 degrees. We are enjoying clear skies with 1-3 mph winds passing through from 284 degrees west by northwest. Our visibility stretches 10+ miles, and our RH hovers at 56%.
3/23/2020 9:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 7.5 2.74 Our southern weather center reports in at 22 degrees Fahrenheit while the northern one reports in at 24 degrees. We are overcast with 0-2 mph winds passing through from 282 degrees north by northwest. Our visibility stretches 10+ miles, and our RH hovers at 71%. Note: Total depth was technically 7.75. In-so-far as the rising total melted value goes, I'm having to relocate each morning due to the warm weather we have been enjoying recently. I'm no more than a couple feet from the previous collection site, but I must point out snow depths vary considerably in the area I'm collecting from. The same is equally true of the northern side of the house. A major factor for this is that the ground in Maine this time of year rises and falls considerably and does so on a daily basis. Due to this, the snow in our yard looks more like a series of shallow, wide waves. As you can imagine, this makes picking a site rather difficult because depths can be considerably different as with ice pack.

3/28/2020 9:30 AM 0.00 0.0 M 13.5 3.70 Notes: This morning, I found the several snowfields I use to be depleted to the extent I needed to find a more accurate reflection of the total snow still remaining. The problem with this is that our acreage isn't exactly flat. Coupled with it moving up and down, it's hard to tell where the highest accumulation might be. I ended up locating a suitable site by finding the least amount of goat fence above the snow line; hence, the lateness of this report. Given this location, at 13.5" and the upcoming new snow expected Sunday through Monday, the numbers should now reflect the best totals available in the coming reports. Our southern weather center reports in at 58 degrees Fahrenheit while the northern one reports in at 37 degrees. We are sunny and clear minus two very small Cumulus clouds taking a tour overhead. The factor I am struggling with is finding the exact baseline on the barometer itself-that being 1010.5 Thanks in advance.
