Very light rain continued from previous report. All intensities of rain fell almost all day and night, except for an overcast period mid-morning when I could apply fertilizer to shrubs. Some moderate rain in the late afternoon, accompanied by low, growling thunder. In the early evening, some heavy rain and a little bit of lightning. Dumped 1.22" at 2200. All of this is from unnamed "non-tropical disturbance 1" which developed off Florida and eased up the coast to the Carolinas, where it parked the last couple days before moving inland. It was a dark and stormy night, after a day that began fair. Dark clouds from TS Isaias appeared in the SW about 0930, quickly followed by heavy rain for about 20 minutes. Lots of thunder, no wind. Mostly cloudy, then a little sunshine and a break of 4 hours. Light to moderate rain in the afternoon, no wind. Heavy rain began in earnest after 2200 as wind picked up. Nearby Stallings Field (KISO)reported 31 mph winds, with 43 mph gusts. Heard heavy rain on roof and windows for hours, but no howling winds. Survey in the morning showed some dead limbs and debris on the ground, but no real damage. Power blipped a couple times, just enough to make DirecTV and thermostat reboot. Partly cloudy at obs time, with high, thin clouds moving fast; 71.6°. We dodged a bullet; TS Isaias must have really sped up after landfall. |
