10/1/2019 5:00 AM 0.01 M M M M Light sprinkles short lived, but they did happen.
10/2/2019 5:00 AM 0.12 M M M M Early morning rain, nothing in the PM.

10/5/2019 5:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M At least a dozen (12) turkeys came down from tiukey hill. I'm sure there were more, but some were hidden by the red maples, from my angle.
10/6/2019 5:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M
10/7/2019 5:00 AM 0.02 M M M M Drizzle, light short lived sprinkles. The heavy stuff is just to our west. 65° while yesterdays warmest, (during daylight hours) was 54°, windy from the south, at the moment. Nature's doing what it always does...keeping us guessing.

10/26/2019 1:00 AM 0.06 M M M M Looks like we're going to have another winter mosquito. I'll keep you informed as the season goes on.
10/27/2019 4:00 AM 0.06 M M M M I'm getting convinced the mosquito I've been seeing is indeed going to be the "Winter Mosquito", this winter. It appears not to be in search of blood, but a friend. I'll try not to swat at it.
10/28/2019 5:00 AM 1.36 M M M M Rain wasn't heavy, as such, but persistent, until 6:30ish, and moved on. No geese heard making a fast exit like the night before when I heard 3 skeins making a hasty retreat. (Gaggle is on the ground, both begin with "G").
10/29/2019 5:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Nothing to report, aside from the winter mosquito.
10/30/2019 4:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M I'm only reporting 0.00 because the 0.01 in the gauge is more of fog mist (condensation), than drizzle (precipitation). You sort it out. Make adjustments as you feel needed. Thee are still blackflies outside...and inside, add that to the fun of mosquitoes. When will summer end? Oh the humanity!
10/31/2019 12:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Again, fog drizzle (0.1), not precip as such. Winter mosquitoes doing fine, no winter jackets on them, yes more than one., and the blackflies appear to doing fine as well. Relentless, those critters are.

11/5/2019 5:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Heard a critter I've not heard before. Fortunately not close to me, either in distress of looking for others of it's kind. It sounded, as best as I can describe by typing, like it was a fox sized animal, but definitely not a fox. Nature's amazing, yet quizzical. One barred owl, moving about, and eventually bored and left. Precipitation we get has a lot to do with what wildlife will be around. Just a thought.

11/14/2019 4:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M No sign of the fox I've been conversating with for the past 3 days. I expect foxes don't use the human time thingy. Have a spanking day. 12/19/2019 5:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Just tree snow to claim, nothing as real Precip. because it's not possible to re-precip, once it made it to surface, that's the end of it, no matter where it lands. Wind on trees blowing snow, is simply cheating. I won't have that. Currently, 9°F, and the wind's blowing up a hoolie. Chill index is too low for me to care about. Welcome to early winter.
12/20/2019 5:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Aside from the bone-chilling temperature, only new news is the fox is still around. Fox tracks in the back yard. Glad to see it's still about....missing was the rabbit tracks. Curious that.

12/23/2019 5:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Interesting night, shortly after 1 AM , I was out checking the temperature (having a smoke), and had a 10 minute conversation with the fox friend that I assumed had moved on. His call was a gravelly "HIIIIIII" mine was something less gravelly but kept the conversation going. I was curious how long this would carry on, as we were both in the dark, and things could take an unfortunate twist for me at any moment. Luck was with me and said fox (gray fox, as has been seen in the past). He came closer, as the call was louder, then decided best not to push one's luck. A lower volume "hi" was said, to which I replied in lower volume as well, and he went about his business. Can't figure where the rabbits went. CIAO! Merry Christmas to NWS GRAY and NWS NORTON, and Happy New Year. Thanks for what you do, for us the Taxpayers of the greatest country in the world.
12/24/2019 3:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Flustered turkey hens at 1:30ish, in the morning. Fox wouldn't be climbing trees to fluster said birds. Wind MIGHT have had something to do with it, as the dry cold front came through, but not much of a wind, 10-15 MPH at best. From my understanding, when turkeys land on a branch (that doesn't break upon their arrival) their feet lock, onto said branch, but the wind, in my opinion, wasn't strong enough to lift the turkeys off the tree, therefore unlocking the feet. Again, it sounded like multiple turkeys, which adds to the mystery. What would make turkeys leave their roosts at that hour of the morning, and then frighten said turkeys? Any suggestions? Your opinion is valued.

12/26/2019 5:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Good job I recharged the flashlight. I heard something moving on turkey hill, and as it came closer, It turned out to be our neighbourhood gray fox. I'd gather the food they were dining on had been covered in ice/snow/sleet, and the critters went to the places it hadn't fallen. I felt bad for the racoon, as it was against the house on what grassy area there was from the eaves covering, and the poor thing was just looking for food. I started opening the door, then saw it, closed the door, it did a double take looking for the cause of the noise, seeing nothing it went on it's way, on the grassy area around the house because it's paws were most likely cold. Poor devil had a wet face and didn't look like it was going to any fancy dinner parties that day.

3/30/2020 5:00 AM 0.95 M M M M Let me explain. We had pea-sized hail, it was raining hard as well. The strange noise on the roof told me there was hail. Bigger hail than expected, which is rare. Pea sized, but when some landed broke in half. I put in a significant event report, then thought "split pea soup would be tasty about now". I refrained, there was a second thunderstorm event around 9:30, no hail, but loads of local lightning and rain. What threw me off was the forecast never mentioned it until after the event. Who would expect 2 thunderstorms at 37°? Cats snoozed through them both, except the black cat hiding under the bed. Other than that all is well. Total liquid value includes said hail event. Best I can do.

Still nothing heard from the cricket community. Makes sense, as the last 2 winters took until May to move on. Caution is well advized. Umbrella goes on the deck table late this month, even though the neighbour's canopy went up 2 days ago. Nature has a way of doing something stupid and inconvenient when you don't expect it. High Temp was 58°, pushing for 60°+ for the next 2 days, then back to reality. CIAO!
4/7/2020 5:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Loads of birds singing, and the peepers were doing peeper stuff.... then it got into the 30's. Radio silence. Birds are now out, at time of report, doing birdsong. I would have waited a few hours. No snow on the ground, but a few heaps of Earth need to be resettled. CIAO!

4/9/2020 5:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M SQUIRREL IN THE WOODS SEEN! A squirrel, Mammal life still exists. Puss Puss snoozed, and never saw said critter. Inner bits of the rain gauge have been cleans and installed. Waiting for the water. Have a Great day.
4/10/2020 4:00 AM 0.79 M M M M Came down good for a while, then the system dried out. Wind kicked in around 6:30, but nothing bad, by 8 PM wind was settled down. Definitely below advisory criteria, But with the sun out today, prolly going up with day-time heating. CIAO!

4/15/2020 5:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Not too bad a day. Peepers are out peeping at 38°, and light wind. Dew point's still dropping to 19°, but the buds on the trees are fattening up, and that Poplar/Birch across the road's leafing out...a month early. Everything will work out as it should, it always does.
4/16/2020 5:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Nothing in the gauge. Well except from the green spider, but no liquid. I saw, about an hour ago a gray fox, heard it in the woods yelping, wound up my wind up flashlight, and focused where I could hear it, then moved the light to where it was travelling, (heard the leaves crunching) and it appeared, gray, on the move, eyes glistening in the light glow, and moved on, then started yelping again. I hope it gave me a good review on Yelp.
4/17/2020 5:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M No fox last night. No precip either. The squirrel I saw for 2 days, decided it's boring, and didn't return. Might have had something to do with the fox, but, that's just a guess.
4/18/2020 3:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Nothing yet, but from radar light snow due shortly. Fox sounds like a yappy type small dog, but on seeing fox, not small, yappy, yes, until the flashlight comes on, then when off yappy again. I think it's called the "vixen's call" , which is done by the males. I'm not abled to sort that out, I'll leave it the professionals.
4/19/2020 5:00 AM 0.20 M M M M Only got enough snow to look as if it was frost on the grass, which melted quickly. Far less than what was forecasted 3-5" of snow alert, But those things happen....repeatedly. Happy Snowless day.

It was hopping on the other back leg. This one had some tan in it's fur. I'm fearing it might have some sort of infection in it's right leg, meaning not long to live. Sadly yhere's nothing ai can do about it. Hummingbird count (close as can be determines) is around 15. Have 3 cardinal nesting sites in the property, and possibly 3 across the road. 9/21/2020 5:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Hummingbirds are gone, but the chickadees are enjoying the water cups above the feeders to keep ants away. Temps are in the low 30's so water's going to freeze and ruin the water cups. Anyone with Ideas to give chickadees water in winter, please get in touch at denni04011@yahoo.com. 9/23/2020 5:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Squirrel I saw outside has taken up residence in the floor and roof. Don't think for a second Puss Puss hasn't noticed.
9/24/2020 5:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M I got advice on feeding the chickadees, which is much appreciated. As for the water, I'm a bit financially embarrassed, so I won't be able to do that. On the feeding, there's a problem, a few rodents have taken up residence here (squatters, if you will) and we'd prefer not to have sunflower shells laying about. Mind you, for the last week Puss Puss has been on guard, just waiting for that lucky day.I wish she was that patient when she wants a back rub. I thank the e-mailer for the suggestion, and consider since there are squirrels messing with Puss Puss' head, peanut shells might be easier to deal with . One day I'll tell you about "SPOT" a squirrel who enjoyed his peanuts on my shoulder, as he took them from my mouth. Don't have to wait till one day, I just told you. Have a great weekend, and we're going back to below normal temperature.
9/25/2020 5:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M The strange noises in the woods turns out to be the same noises from years past......leaves falling.
9/26/2020 5:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Blue Jay at the water stop above the hummingbird feeder, as it left a chickadee had a quick sip. I got a message from a fellow New Hampshirite as to feeding the birds during the winter. I like the options, but being on a limited income, most were nothing I can afford. As for the sunflower seed recommendation, it would be good, but we have a few squirrels that have the cat on rodent watch most of the day taken up residence in the walls and ceiling. Don't need to encourage them to feel comfy here......Perhaps seeds in the neighbour's yard might work out better. I'll ask my elves about that. Yeah, Neighbour's yard. Nothing to report again as for precip.

Big trees from the sound of the thuds heard at 2 AM. Three power flashes to our south, so many people in Winchester lost electrics.
12/31/2019 1/01/2020 5:00 AM 2 1.26 M M Well, here's going to try to explain this one.... Most of what we got was sleet, about an 3/4" of sleet. Measure of snow on top of that as the event ended was 1 and a quarter of snow on the top. As for water equivalent value of melted snow in my gauge, that's kind of sort of, went to the whole water equivalent. Hard to catch snow equivalent and separate it from sleet when both are in the same container. I'm sure you know what I mean, as if anyone sees this anyway.
