This morning, the rain gauge was covered inside and out with ice accretion. Snowboard had a significant ice layer at the bottom. Apparently the first of the snow on the board fell into puddled water, melted and refroze. Snow depth on board was slightly less than on the ground. |

Rain started 2:20pm with a 6 minute burst of heavy rain starting at 2:22. It slacked off almost completely by 2:30 at which time we had received 0.17”. Rain began very gently at 4:12pm with some distant thunder but no wind. Continued like that for about 15 minutes. It became much heavier at 4:27 with one close thunderclap but still almost no wind. Gusty but not really strong wind started from the north, then shifted to the south. There was a definite lull about 5pm followed by another short burst of heavy rain at about 5:10. This final burst of rain produced an additional 0.13”. Just before the rain ended, brilliant sunshine broke through producing a rainbow close to the ground, right in our yard — a phenomenon I have very seldom seen. In total, rain fell for just over an hour, but locations within 5 miles to our west and southwest received no rain at all. A significant weather report was filed. |
