10/13/2019 8:00 AM 0.05 M M M M high 63, low = current temp = 47. Note- I had kept the inner tube inside due to freezing earlier in the week. I had some notes taped to the back of the rain gauge on how to translate weight in grams to inches of rainfall. I used these and I verified by adding the same net weight of water to a dry inner tube. If you are reading this, this is a suggestion to repeat those instructions later this season. I find this easier, faster and simpler than thawing the frozen contents and then pouring into the inner tube.

9/8/2020 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M low 53, high 89. Got windy and smokey about 9:30 PM (at 8 PM there was no hint of smoke). Hazy this morning and reduced visibility at 7:15 AM which has improved now.
9/9/2020 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M high was 84. Poor air quality. Light breeze this AM (windy yesterday), smokey, some decreased visibility (ie like a morning fog that decreases visibility from 10 miles to 3-4 miles). Logging operation on nearby property is inactive both yesterday and today. There has been additional ash fall presumably from the fires in Clackamas and Marion counties. Yesterday AM I found that my freshly painted porch rails had imbedded ash and will need to be resanded and recoated!
9/10/2020 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M low 52; high 90. Very smoky! Looks overcast and the sun is orange at 9 AM but it is just smoke. We had ash fall overnight (again). We are around 90 miles NW of the nearest fire. The solar panels were producing about 22 KWH per day prior to Labor day. Yesterday was 15.5 or at least a 25% reduction due to smoke cover. Visibility is like on a day with moderate fog.
9/11/2020 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M low 52; high 79. "Overcast" all day = dense smoke; sun visible as a orange ball. Smelled like a campfire. Everything is very dry. Red flag warning has resolved here for now - but will wait to mow field until after the next rain because grass is so dry.
9/12/2020 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M low 52, high 60. At 8 AM visibility less than 1/4 mile. Everything is drippy wet from dense fog overlapping smoke. Air quality monitor nearby remains over 200 as it was all day yesterday from the Beachie Creek and Riverside fires; closest of these is about 80 miles away as the eagle flies. Looks like a change in the weather coming to give firefighters a chance to start to contain the fires - and maybe some rain to help clear the air! Overall, nasty to be outside without multiple masks this morning.

9/30/2019 10/05/2019 8:00 AM 6 0.51 0.0 0.00 T=45 and partly cloudy with no evidence of the forecast fog. In the last few days the low was 32 and the high 70. Based on the "nearby" rainfall readings, best guess is that less than 0.10 of this belongs to "last" water year and the rest belongs to this water year.
10/17/2019 10/31/2019 8:00 AM 15 2.45 0.0 M Some cold nights were forecast when we left town so I removed the inner tube and funnel from the gauge. Now I am concerned that the measurement is low due to evaporation. The weather has turned very nice for November! In our absence low temp 26.

9/16/2020 9/17/2020 8:00 AM 2 0.10 M M low 59, high 73 in our absence. Although there is dense fog advisory this morning, I can see much further than under the same circumstances on Sept 14= 2-3 miles or more. PM 2.5 at near by recording location is 196 this morning so also much better than the last few days (was over 300 on Monday, Sept 15.) Still unhealthy for everyone and so I won't be working outside much on the projects in the forest. Fire danger listed as extreme at nearby signboard last night.
