Went to the winter weather conference in Portland at OMSI, enjoyed it. Most of the forecasters kind of agreed or hedged that November and December will be cooler than average some were saying a chance of snow with with perhaps around a total of about 7 inches of snow adding up over the entire winter. Also said they were expecting a cool March, April, and May, even June was June was mentioned. Forgot to enter the precip for the 26th of .07. |

Last night at 10:30pm with a temp of 32 it began to snow fairly large flakes which quickly began to accumulate, by midnight it had turned to rain and most of the snow had melted and not much fell after totaling .10" this morning. Now the ducks on the pond appear to be walking on water as the rain fell on the thin ice that still covers approximately half of the pond. The high temp yesterday was 40°f overnight low was 32°f. A rare encounter with wildlife yesterday, we had a river otter in the pond who stuck around for about an hour eating crayfish. This was the 1st time ever to see on Jordan Creek. 28 days without any measurable precipitation, but it was close! Early evening heard thunder off several times from the east north east about 7pm. People of McCully Mountain evacuated from our homes in the wee hours of the morning on the 8th of September, because of fires approaching the flanks of the mountain from the east and the north from the Beachie Creek Fire that was threating the Mountain. Thunderstorms were predicted for yesterday, the 18th, the uneasiness of lightning sparking new fires, as the ground was still bone dry even with the little bit of rain fell by morning (.11 inch). The mountain is used to heavy downpours but the storm grew scary, the darkness of the storm coming in sent our chickens to their roosts at 1pm in the afternoon. I have never seen the weather get so dark. It began to rain. This turned into the 1st place heaviest rain I have ever witnessed, now the winner after more than fifty years of weather observing. We were hit with 21 minutes of torrential rain overspilling the rain gutters with a black soup of rain, ashes, and bits of charcoal from the roof, even lasting long enough to give the roof a rinse. All in all, this will help with cleaning rain gutters from the thick layer of ashes from the fires now being washed away without the need to scrub.
