5/22/2020 8:00 AM 0.09 M M M M Decaying thunderstorm passed over between 3:00 and 4:00 AM. It looked like most of the rain was north of this location. Most of the lightning was intracloud. Windy behind the storm.
5/23/2020 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M
5/24/2020 8:00 AM 0.01 M M M M Gusty winds and a brief light rain swept through around midnight.
5/25/2020 8:00 AM 1.32 M M M M The main squall line last night split around Travis County, based on radar observations. All of our rain at this location fell in the beefy, long- lasting stratiform region. Rainfall was light to moderate for several hours.
5/26/2020 8:00 AM 0.02 M M M M One hundredth fell in a pop-up shower yesterday at 3:30 PM, and another hundredth fell overnight. As of now at 8:00 AM, we are under the anvil of a severe thunderstorm ~30 miles south and can hear almost constant thunder.
5/27/2020 8:00 AM 0.04 M M M M All of the rain in the last 24 hours fell between 8 and 9 AM yesterday morning, immediately after yesterday's reading.
5/28/2020 8:00 AM 0.31 M M M M 0.01'' fell in late afternoon in a brief thunderstorm, and the remainder fell during and just after the squall line passage between 7:00 PM and 8:00 PM. Sunset colors were interesting in the mammatocumulus- covered sky. Surprise severe thunderstorm exploded to the north over Williamson County after 11:00 PM, but we weren't quite close enough to get any more rain from it.
5/29/2020 8:00 AM T M M M M The trace of precipitation I recorded occurred in occasional sprinkles yesterday afternoon. It was falling from high clouds that I think were associated with the storms to the SW.

6/17/2020 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M At 6:50 PM on Monday the 15th, I could see a isolated heavy rain shower about 15 miles to the west. Based on radar data, this shower was located over the Whitewater Springs subdivision off of FM 1174. I noticed last night that a delayed report had come in from station TX-BRT-51 in Whitewater Springs, showing 0.10'' for the 24 hrs ending 7:00 AM the 16th. From radar, it look like this gauge was directly beneath this shower. I have a photo of the rain shafts in that direction from the same time. Cool to correlate the three!

6/19/2020 8:00 AM T M M M M This trace fell as an enigmatic sparse sprinkle shortly before noon. The sky was mostly clear and only very thinly partially overcast with cirrostratus overhead at the time.
6/20/2020 8:45 AM 0.21 M M M M Moderate intermittent rain, mostly since 5:30 AM. Some thunder to the south after 6:00 AM. I considered waiting and submitting a multi-day total since this observation is 45 mins. late and since the rain is spread around the morning observation time, but decided not to. As of now at 8:45 AM, light rain is still ongoing, so tomorrow's total will include some of this.
6/21/2020 8:00 AM 0.01 M M M M This one hundredth fell after my report time yesterday but before 9:00 AM. So, the entire rainfall for the event was 0.22''.

6/23/2020 8:00 AM 0.56 M M M M First rain fell from 5:57 AM to 6:05 AM as very large drops. Two close and loud lightning strikes around 6:15. A heavy downpour began around 6:20 and lasted through about 6:40. Toward the end of the heaviest rain, there were high gusty winds of (estimated) 35-40 mph. As of now at 8:00 AM, I can see frequent anvil lightning flashing along the I-35 corridor to the east and thunder can still be heard. Light rain is recommencing. Thickly overcast and darkish; feels very springlike.
6/24/2020 8:00 AM 0.09 M M M M This fell in the stratiform precipitation region of yesterday's MCS after the report time of 8:00 AM but before 9:30 AM. So, the rainfall total for this event was 0.65''. This is the largest total from a single event since May 25. Quite pleasant yesterday evening behind the cold front- very dry, clear air. Could see bright lightning flashes after sunset to the SSE from storms on the coastal plains (in Gonzales, DeWitt, and Lavaca Counties.)
6/25/2020 8:00 AM 0.01 M M M M Received this one hundredth of an inch around 5:30 PM yesterday in a light rain shower moving northeast to southwest. At 8:00 AM this morning, heavy dew and dense fog, visibility 100 yards.

6/29/2020 8:00 AM 0.07 M M M M Quick, heavy, and welcome rain shower at 7:45 PM yesterday lasting around 10 minutes. Came in from the SE on an outflow boundary and was followed by a nice rainbow. Afterwards, could see the "mushroom cloud" backsheared anvil of the strong storm down near Cedar Creek; looked quite impressive and organized for summer.

7/8/2020 8:00 AM 0.22 M M M M A rip-roaring outflow boundary blew in from the N-NE around 2:30 PM, bringing 30+ mph winds and dropping temperatures several degrees. We were just missed by a nice thunderstorm to the north but got a good heavy rain shower from about 3:15 to 3:30 PM. Later, around sunset, some decent strong pulsing thunderstorms made a run at us from the west, but decayed completely before arrival.

7/26/2020 8:00 AM 0.14 M M M M Periodic, brief rain showers yesterday afternoon from the far outer bands of Hurricane Hanna. The main shower occurred a little after 2 PM. The duration was very short, but the drops were very large.
7/27/2020 8:00 AM 0.27 M M M M One hard rainshower around 12:15 PM, and a long drizzle late in the afternoon from high debris clouds. Surprisingly cool and pleasant outside in the evening.

7/29/2020 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Active afternoon yesterday. Scattered to numerous showers and storms moving every direction imaginable and spawning a myriad of outflow boundaries. Saw rain, saw lightning, heard thunder, and got hit by multiple outflow boundaries, but not one drop of rain!
7/30/2020 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Another strong outflow boundary from dying seabreeze convection blew in at 4:40 PM, bringing 30 mph wind gusts but no rain again.

8/1/2020 8:00 AM 0.14 M M M M Several good rainshowers over the afternoon as a rare midsummer "cold" front ignited numerous thunderstorms over the area. Most of our rain came from repetitive cells forming over E central Burnet County and drifting SE past us. Thunder was frequent all afternoon, some close but most distant. As the storms marched down into South Texas in the evening, we got the best sunset mammatus display of the year so far. After dark, I looked SW and saw occasional anvil lightning discharges low on the horizon from the S Texas storms, that would spur a long chain of CG lightning. Reminiscent of June 9, 2019, (also an off-season cold front event.) Apparently these storms were extremely electrified.

8/3/2020 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Storms were forming yesterday in the NW flow, starting about this latitude and moving SE. The first one fired up over Cedar Park at about noon. Nothing here.
8/4/2020 8:00 AM 0.89 M M M M Finally, a real-deal gullywasher! This is my biggest catch in 70 days. We needed it. The rain was intense enough to warrant a Significant Weather Report. Didn't expect this kind of storm on a day with such limited instability (SPC mesoanalysis was estimating less than 1000 J/Kg MLCAPE), but we'll take it. Was closer to lightning while outdoors about 4:20 PM yesterday than I have been in years. Deafening crack of thunder was nearly instantaneous. KRYW (Rusty Allen Airport in Lago Vista) recorded a temperature drop of 94° to 72° during the storm passage.

8/16/2020 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M First cloudy evening in quite a while yesterday; anvil debris from storms over the western hill country overspread us before sunset. Mostly clear again this morning. Hopefully we have some rain coming.
8/17/2020 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Rain looked promising last night, but most everything fell apart in southward progression. Not a drop here. Mild and mostly clear, with some scattered high-level debris cirrus and cirrocumulus. A vivid smell of rain is in the air.
8/18/2020 8:00 AM T M M M M Nothing in the gauge, but a light sprinkle did occur in late afternoon yesterday. There was some scattered convection over the day in the northerly flow aloft, but not much overall. The last visible storm of the day was a lone cell near Chaffin Crossing (~100 miles NW) that fired at dusk. The only change behind the "cold" front here was lower humidity.
8/19/2020 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M A cool and pleasant morning by August standards. At 8:00 AM, entirely clear and 72°, with comfortably dry air.
8/20/2020 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Another cool and pleasant morning. A very dry air mass is leading to large temperature variations between day and night (69°-99° range forecast.) Light pollution was considerably less than usual last night.

8/22/2020 8:00 AM 0.99 M M M M One humdinger of a storm this morning. Thankfully, no damage to report, only a much-needed rain. Powerful outflow winds on the leading edge hit around 5:40, gusting to probably 50 mph, followed by continuous lightning and heavy blowing rain. I saw a lightning bolt hit a tree 1/2 mile out at 6:00 AM sharp. A fiery orange glow lit up the tree as the channel strobed several times. The anvil lightning in the trailing stratiform region was spectacular and frequent, very similar to April 29. Still a light rain ongoing with overhead anvil crawlers and frequent thunder at 8:00 AM.
8/23/2020 8:00 AM 0.12 M M M M This is the remainder of the rain from yesterday morning's storm, which fell after the 8:00 AM report. So, the total was 1.11''.

8/26/2020 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Comparing satellite imagery to visual observation.. we can actually see the farthest outer band of now major Hurricane Laura off to the east. It's a distant band of low-topped, messy, tropical-looking convection with a couple embedded thunderstorms. Didn't expect to see that this early. Otherwise, the sky is clear.
8/27/2020 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Although we could see some thunderstorms in Laura's outermost band far to the east for much of the day, not a drop here.

9/2/2020 8:00 AM T M M M M This trace is just to cover a streamer shower sprinkle yesterday morning. As of 8:00 AM, not a drop has made it here from the expansive storm complex that sputtered and flashed to our north all night. A dark and lowring sky this morning, with what looks like a shelf cloud low across the northern horizon.
9/3/2020 8:00 AM 0.25 M M M M Rain showers in the morning and afternoon. No thunderstorms, and the late afternoon/evening storm complex that was forecast never happened. This morning, the sky is overcast and darker to the north again.
9/4/2020 8:00 AM 0.01 M M M M Thundery and darker to the SE. We missed out on almost all of yesterday's rain due to the widespread early morning storms just to our north whose outflow effectively stabilized our atmosphere (again.) But, every hundredth helps.
9/5/2020 8:00 AM 0.09 M M M M All of this fell before 2 PM. The sky is mostly overcast this morning with stratocumulus and some altocumulus.
9/6/2020 8:00 AM T M M M M An eastward-moving strong thunderstorm with frequent lightning made a close pass to our N around 6:00 PM. We got hit by powerful outflow winds, but not a drop of rain. This trace fell in late evening.

9/9/2020 8:00 AM 0.59 M M M M 0.02'' of this fell yesterday morning, the rest overnight. There has been moderate to sometimes heavy steady rain and very occasional thunder. It was extremely dark outside 30 minutes ago, a bit brighter now amid a break in the heavier rain.
9/10/2020 8:00 AM 2.41 M M M M It's fall in Central Texas! This is the earliest I can remember it being this cool. Overcast and 57°F at 8:00 AM with a cold north wind (bone-chilling by September standards.) This rain total is my biggest catch since this station started, and the biggest calendar-day total (of 2.98'') at this location since 2018. Most of it came down hard and fast from training thunderstorms in the southerly flow in early afternoon, prompting 2 sig wx reports. Flash flood warning lasted from 2:23 PM to 5:30 PM.
9/11/2020 8:00 AM T M M M M Never got out of the mid-60s yesterday. Astonishingly cold for late summer.

9/15/2020 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Overcast with the typical summer morning Gulf stratus deck. The tree that I saw lightning zap on August 22 is dead now.
9/16/2020 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Sunset colors were enhanced again by the wildfire smoke layer to the west. Clear and dewed this morning. A street of cirrocumulus gravity-wave type cloud bands are stretched N to S to our W this morning. Am I seeing the shear axis that is drifting eastward today?
9/17/2020 8:00 AM 0.48 M M M M Woke up to thunder and a dark shelf cloud to the north and northwest early this morning. A new storm developing on the E end of that cluster crawled SW and impacted us with heavy rain that began around 7:45 AM and is just slowing up at 8:00 AM report time. Interesting structure with this storm as it approached. The original storm now to our W has much more frequent lightning and louder thunder. It sounds like it's going anvil crawler dominant at this point, judging by the thunder type.
9/18/2020 8:00 AM 0.05 M M M M This is the remainder of yesterday morning's rain which fell in the hour of 8:00 AM, immediately after yesterday's report. So, the total was 0.53''. Scattered showers/storms and occasional thunder throughout yesterday afternoon, but no new rainfall. Clear this morning with very heavy dew coating the gauge and the grass.
9/19/2020 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Clear, cool and hazy. 66°F and heavy dew.
9/20/2020 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Low was 59° this morning. Nice. There is still some haze in the sky; apparently it's actually smoke from the Western wildfires.
9/21/2020 8:00 AM 0.13 M M M M Clouds from Beta's outer band overspread us starting around 6:00 PM yesterday. The first drops fell around 8:45 PM. Periods of light rain overnight.
9/22/2020 8:00 AM 1.04 M M M M Drizzle and low clouds throughout yesterday, with a few brief periods of moderate rain. 0.44'' fell between 8 AM and 8 PM. The remaining 0.60'' fell overnight. At 8:00 AM this morning, the measuring tube of the gauge was full right up to the overflowing point (which for my gauge is 1.04'',) but hadn't overflowed into the outer cylinder yet. Light rain is ongoing.
9/23/2020 8:00 AM 0.03 M M M M I noted 0.02'' of this yesterday evening; apparently another hundredth fell overnight. The ground is a little wet this morning. Assuming this is it, we netted 1.20'' from Beta.
9/24/2020 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M
9/25/2020 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Extremely heavy dew coating all surfaces this morning. There is a dense layer of valley fog covering lower elevations around us. The sky finally cleared out yesterday afternoon as Beta's residual cloud deck shifted away to the east.
9/26/2020 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Lone deer spotted this morning inspecting the gauge. Looking for a drink? Nothing there for it but dew.

9/28/2020 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M The first cold front of astronomical fall blew in overnight; it was a dry front. Breezy and 65°, feels colder. A scattered gray altocumulus deck is stretched across the blue sky with the sun shining through it low in the east.
9/29/2020 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Beautiful fall morning; crystal-clear, dead calm and 57°. It's one of those mornings when temperatures vary a lot between high and low elevations. The LCRA automated gauge 1 mile W and downhill from here shows 46°. Scenic sunset sky yesterday as the post-frontal cloud deck pulled away, due to the presence of altocumulus stratiformis translucidus perlucidus undulatus clouds (yes, they're a real thing. Look it up.)
9/30/2020 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M An absolutely beautiful fall day yesterday; sunny, deep blue sky, still, dry and comfortable. Central Texas is a great place to live at this time of year. It's not quite as cool this morning as yesterday morning, but cool and still enough that I can hear the train horn in Leander.
