Observation Date Observation Time Precipitation Snowfall Snowfall SWE Snow Depth Snow SWE Notes
10/1/2019 7:00 AM 0.04 0.0 M M M There was some lightning around 3AM and a little rain. This AM it is still very warm for October 1 at 73 degrees, and a very little drizzle. Yesterday there were warnings for heavy rain and maybe flash flooding as a cold front passes through. We could see high temps in the 40's once that arrives. Yesterday reached 80 degrees and some places were in the mid 80's.
10/2/2019 7:00 AM 3.23 0.0 M M M It was raining was raining at 7AM and never stopped all day. Between 8 and 945AM yesterday we had 1.4" of rain with a thunder storm. It rained steadily all day. We drove over to Preairie in early afternoon, and the evidence of heavy rainfall was all over with piles of rocks and debris washed over the road in many places, The bridge over the Kickapoo River at Petersburg is being repaired as a result of the last rain that did cause the river to flood over the bridge. We were forced to take an alternate route down Hwy 131 along the river to Hwy 60 just east of Wauxzeka. The river was bank full, and the Wisconsin River was also bank full which it has been for several days. More rain is expected later today and tonight. We really do not need any more rain, although it is nice to see the bright green grass, but the leaves won't be pretty this fall. We already have a ton down in our yard, and they are fall at a fast pace.
10/3/2019 7:00 AM 0.24 0.0 M M M Another overcast day but it isn't raining for a change. It did rain all day, but not nard so there was not much accumulation. The temp today was 53 degrees, about normal for October.
10/4/2019 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M There is a strange orb in the bright blue sky today that we have not seen for a long time, it's called the sun. I wonder how long it will last! Yesterday was cool and cloudy most of the day. It appeared that there was some possibility of getting some sunshine, but then it clouded over again and with a stiff NW wind, it was quite chilly. There was talk of some frost in the northern counties overnight.
10/5/2019 7:00 AM 0.07 M M M M It was raining at 7AM when I took the dogs out. It was a gentle rain, but wet just the same. How will the farmers ever harvest their beans and corn if it keeps raining? The AM temp was a chilly 47 degrees which will feel warm in about a month. Some nice sunny, and warm October weather would be nice.
10/6/2019 7:00 AM 0.82 0.0 M M M Yesterday was a gloomy, rainy day with some loud thunder and lightning. At least it isn't raining today, but the early peeks of the sun have long since disappeared. The AM temp was a chilly 44 degrees on the way to the 60's. We still don't have sat TV, so missed the Badger game yesterday (it was a non conference, and from the score we didn't miss much!), but the Packer game is on FOX which we get with an antenna on the roof. DISH is coming on Tuesday to fix the sat (we hope.) Life is pretty dull without it!!
10/7/2019 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M The first day in what seems like weeks we have a clear blue sky and bright sunshine! The AM temp was a cool 40 degrees. One of these days there will be frost that will kill all of the tender plants and flowers. Kind of sad considering we will do it all over again next spring which seems like an eternity. I love the fall season with its warm days and cool nights and all of the pumpkins, ripe apples, and the smell of fires burning in wood stoves and furnaces. Too bad it will be followed by snow, ice and bitter cold temps.
10/8/2019 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today promises to be another beautiful fall day. The AM temp was a bit warmer than yesterday at 43 degrees. Lots of year work to do before the snow flies. It is predicted to get very cold with frost likely by the week end, even some snow showers up north.
10/9/2019 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M I fear this will be the last of the beautiful, sunny and rain free days of fall. Rain and cold will move in for the week end, putting and to this wonderful stretch of fall weather. It was fun while it lasted, now back to reality. Maybe even snow for our northern counties.
10/10/2019 7:00 AM 0.02 0.0 M M M It did rain a very little overnight, and it did not get colder. The AM temp was 54 degrees about where it has been all week. The cold will hit tonight! I did re pot the flowers, vines actually, that I want to save over the winter. They do very well in the east windows on a ledge built for them.
10/11/2019 7:00 AM 0.11 0.0 M M M It is 10 degrees colder today than yesterday, and the sky is overcast with a fairly strong wind blowing. I sadly fear the beautiful fall weather we had the past few days has gone away until perhaps next spring.
10/12/2019 7:00 AM 0.01 0.0 M M M Yesterday started out gloomy and overcast, but the sun did manage to show its face later in the PM. We drive over to Richland Center early in the AM and did encounter two brief rain showers. Today we had out first 32 degree temp. I wouldn't call it a "killing" frost, although some of the tender plants away from the house were singed pretty badly, while those in the beds next to the building survived mostly untouched. It is very windy making it feel much colder. The bright sunshine will warm things up though. Today could turn out to be a pretty nice fall day. The leaves around here are turning, but won't be very pretty due to all of the rain we have had this fall. When I took the dogs out around 7PM there were a few flakes of snow, yes snow, falling.
10/13/2019 7:00 AM 0.14 T M M M It snowed off and on all day and was still snowing at 10PM. There was none on the ground because the temp was above 32 degrees. We have a bird feeder on the deck that has a large roof, and that did have a coating of snow on it in the morning. Today is warmer than I expected, 35 degrees. We still have some plants that did not freeze yet. Today is overcast, but it is not raining or snowing now.
10/14/2019 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Another day with a clear blue sky and bright sunshine. The AM temp was a chilly 31 degrees. We still have not had a freeze cold enough to totally kill all of the flowers and plants; nothing below 30 degrees yet. Hope it warms up some today as this is way too cold for this early in the season. We have already had snow which usually doesn't happen until the first week in November. Had the ground been colder, there would have been snow on it two days.
10/15/2019 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M It did not rain as predicted overnight. Yesterday remained sunny, but quite windy. Today is mostly overcast with a huge cloud bank in the east. Perhaps we will get the rain, just a bit later.
10/17/2019 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today is a little warmer with less wind. The sky is partly overcast with enough spaces for the sun to shine through. No rain expected for a few days, so hopefully it will be a nice dry day.
10/18/2019 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today appears as if it is going to be a beautiful one. The sun is shinning in a clear October sky. The AM temp was 40 degrees with no overnight frost. The landscape is beginning to look like fall with colorful trees and bright green grass. The leaves won't be very pretty due to all of the rain we have had so far this fall, but at least the grass is green! spite of what the Farmer's Almanac says, NWS reported that this is predicted to be a "normal" winter. No polar vortex this year which is a good thing!
10/19/2019 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M It is warmer today at 54 degrees now, and starting to cloud over with rain expected later this AM. It appears that most of that will miss us as well. It has actually been dry for the past two or three days. Many leaves to mulch if it ever dries out and stops raining.
10/21/2019 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M It was pouring rain at 7:15 when I took the dogs out. Ramses refused to do his business, and Olivia. on my insistence finally did. It did finally stop raining about an hour later, so I made him go out then. It was quite warm at 50 degrees. I think tomorrow it is supposed to get very cold again. I can hardly wait. We are using wood from the wood pile because Lee has a bout of gout, thus is unable to do anything that requires moving! His foot is badly swollen and it is red up above the ankle. Today he says it is better after I have him on a better diet now. I am beginning to get tired since I have everything to do around here, which includes hauling wood and splitting it for two big wood stoves. Not woman's work!!
10/22/2019 7:00 AM 0.92 M M M M It was raining a bit this AM, but most of this measure came from yesterday AM when it rained, I should say it poured much of the morning. Today is still warm at 42 degrees
10/24/2019 7:00 AM 0.08 0.0 M M M It started to rain at 5PM as we were preparing to go to Viroqua for chicken and gas. It rained the entire time we were on the road (25 min.) and was still raining as we started home. I thought there would be more rain in the gauge, but maybe it did not rain as much here. Today is overcast and gloomy, preparing for November, I guess. I went out yesterday to take some photos of the fall colors, and I could not find any. Most of the leaves have fallen, and those left on the trees are not very colorful since they are the oaks which are a deep red, not a bright orange or yellow like the maples and aspen. This fall's colors were not pretty due to all of the rain we have had.
10/25/2019 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today is a beautiful fall day with bright sunshine in an October blue sky. This was out first hard freeze of the season with a temp of 26 degrees. All of the plants that were not already dead from a couple of cold mornings are now dead. They are even talking about some snow next week. We did already have some show showers on a couple of days this month but no accumulation because the ground was too warm.
10/26/2019 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M a bit warmer today at 29 degrees with mostly sunny skies and sunshine. Much wood to haul in and leaves to mulch. Rain is expected tonight.
10/28/2019 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M The rain predicted for Sat. PM never happened, and yesterday was a beautiful sunny day. Today us overcast and very windy, but the temp was warmer at 37 degrees. Nest Now snow is predicted for later this week since a cold front is moving here from the west.
10/29/2019 7:00 AM M 1.0 M M M I had quite a shock when I looked outside and saw a winter wonderland. Measuring the snow was not exactly easy because the ground was warm so the snow on the side walk and the parking lot had melted leaving a coating of around 3" on the grass. Of course the grass was quite tall, so difficult to tell what was snow and what was grass. I found a spot on the top of a tree stump that measured exactly 1" which is probably the amount of snow that fell. It really resembles a storm found in mid January than October. We usually get our first measurable snowfall around the first or second week in November. This is just too much! Perhaps the old Farmers' Almanac is right about this being a cold and snowy winter.
10/30/2019 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today is cold at 30 degrees, and overcast. At least it did not snow yesterday or overnight, but snow is predicted for Halloween, again! Perhaps we could get an early spring since winter has started so early!!??? Ha, fat chance of that happening. I think the first early spring I can remember was 2012 when it got very warm in March and stayed that way all summer. The worst winter I can remember was 2008 when the deer slept about 10 feet from the house and ate most of the branches off the pine trees!
10/31/2019 7:00 AM M 0.5 M M M It began to snow around 5PM and continued until 7PM or so. Not snowing this AM but very windy with a temp of 27 degrees, thus the snow is going to stick around for a while!
11/1/2019 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today is overcast, probably why the temp was 26 degrees. It was predicted to get down into the teens, but it did not stay clear overnight. It did clear off in early afternoon. We drove down to P'ville yesterday in late morning. It got very dark and felt as if it could snow any minute, but it just produced a few flurries, and a terrible cold wind.
11/2/2019 7:00 AM T M M M M
11/3/2019 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M
11/4/2019 7:00 AM 0.24 0.0 M M M Another gloomy and overcast day with a warm temp of 38 degrees and some mist in the air. If it were colder we would have major icing on the roads, etc. It is predicted to turn colder later in the week, though.
11/5/2019 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today is sunny with a clear intense blue sky and a cool temp of 27 degreew. So great to see the sun for a change. It seems we have had mostly overcast and dreary days. Perhaps November can be better than it usually is, although snow is predicted for tonight into Wed. with accumulations expected. It is way too early for this, but really Thanksgiving is just a scant three weeks and a few days away.
11/6/2019 7:30 AM M 2.1 0.03 2.1 M It was snowing shortly before 10PM last evening and it is still snowing now. A very wet and heavy snow, more like March snow than November. Our new little dog, a one year old part America Eskimo and ? from the Richland Area Animal Rescue, nearly went crazy running through the newly fallen snow. Perhaps this is the first time she has been able to play in it. The two older dogs just walked and wanted to get back in the hoouse. I guess they are somewhat like people in that respect!
11/7/2019 7:00 AM M 1.0 M M M It did snow again in the afternoon, but it was not as much as had fallen overnight. I believe I heard the TV weatherman say we had gotten 9" so far this month which is way above average for this time of year.
11/8/2019 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Yesterday was a nice day, but remained very chilly. Today began with a temp of just 4 degrees, with sunshine in a clear blue sky. We are expecting a brief warm up, then back into the deep freeze for next week.
11/9/2019 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M So far today is a beautiful one with bright sunshine and a warmer temp than we have seen for quite a while. The temp now at 10:30AM is 36 degrees. They say next week will be the coldest yet with temps perhaps at 0 or low single digits. Can hardly wait! Today will be a great one for the Iowa/Badger game at the Camp in Madison. I hope the team has their heads in the game, which they have not had for the past two games! Same goes for Green Bay!
11/10/2019 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today is warm at 32 degrees with an overcast sky, Looks as if it could rain or snow any minute. Yesterday's warmth melted much of the last snow fall leaving it very messy around here, especially for a little white dog that likes to run around.
11/11/2019 7:15 AM 0.25 0.2 M M M It did rain and snow overnight. The snow had stopped earlier this AM but started up shortly after 7AM. Not going to be a pretty day or a good one to drive to Lacrosse this AM.
11/12/2019 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today dawned with bright sunshine and a temp of 5 degrees. With the wind it probably felt like -15 degrees. My husband saw three, two of them large bucks when he went out to get wood off the wood pile. Tis the season! To be honest, I don't know for sure when the 9 day gun deer season starts here, but it is traditionally the week before thanksgiving. My older son, now 56, got a trophy buck back when it was in high school and the younger son got a doe. I don't care for the meat, so we don't hunt anymore. Of course since they both live in the city, one in Ames, IA and the other in Milwaukee where he was born and never left. Both have spouses who do not approve of guns or hunting!!
11/13/2019 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Yesterday was another cold one with a very strong NW wind blowing. Today is warmer with a temp of 15 degrees. It is working itself up to another snow storm expected to arrive sometime in later morning. We could get up to 3" of new snow. It is much too early to be in this cycle of cold, snow, and more cold.
11/14/2019 9:30 AM M M M M M I measured the snow before leaving for Viroqua and found a little over an inch, but it was still snowing. We did not return until after noon. By the time we got home the snow had stopped, but started up again later. Anyway, I could not find a place to measure the new snow that had not been disturbed. My best guess is that we probably have in the neighborhood of 3" on the ground now.
11/15/2019 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M No snow yesterday or overnight. Today is clear with bright sunshine with temps promised to be in the upper 30's. That is probably normal for this time of year. We have been in the deep freeze for so long it is beginning to feel like winter started in October and will probably last through May. Someone told me yesterday that the Farmers' Almanac said we will have an early spring. That would be nice after the past two years of late snow storms in April and May.
11/16/2019 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M No rain or snow and bright sunshine again in s mostly clear blue sky. It did not get out of the 30's yesterday, but the sun felt good and a day without any precip is a rarity these days. So much corn left to pick in the fields. They say we will have a nat gas shortage because so much is being used to dry the very wet corn in storage.
11/17/2019 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today is overcast with a temp of 33 degrees. It did not freeze overnight for the first time in what feels like a month! The snow is disappearing, but not fast enough to clear the road so we can drive the truck up here. It was predicted to snow overnight, but so far it has not. Let's hope it does not! Lots of farmers out picking corn, but lots more to be picked. Ditto for the soy bean. In the local paper they said that the crop yields were very good in spite of the late and wet spring and this terrible wet and cold fall. We cannot afford to lose any more farmers or we won't be the Dairy State anymore, in fat, I think Calif. has already passed us. There is so much uproar over CSFO's around here since there have been several manure spills into trout streams in the past two years.
11/18/2019 7:00 AM 0.16 M M M M Today is overcast with a temp of 32 degrees. There was some precip yesterday. There was a little snow, but most of it was rain. Since the temp did not drop below freezing, it wasn't a problem. Most of the snow on the ground has melted now leaving a messy landscape with leaves and mud. By Wed. the temps are supposed to get in to the 40's. Just when the ski hill were starting to open up.
11/19/2019 7:00 AM M 0.2 M M M It was snowing ever so lightly at 0700 when I went out to feed the birds. There was already enough to just cover the ground which was almost bare except for a few spots where the show had been plowed or shoveled. The temp was warm at just freezing. If it gets as warm as predicted, this snow will be gone by tomorrow night.
11/20/2019 7:00 AM 0.08 0.0 M M M Today dawned very foggy, but the temp was again above freezing. The fog did not clear until late morning.
11/21/2019 7:20 AM 0.63 0.0 M M M It was raining at 10PM and was still raining at 6:30AM. Since it was predicted to warm up after midnight. The AM temp was a balmy 49 degrees, probably the first one above the 40 degree mark all month. Let's hope it does not freeze soon. There is little snow left on the ground and it could stay that way the rest of the fall and winter.
11/22/2019 7:00 AM 0.09 0.0 M M M We went from high temps near 50n degrees yesterday to the mid 20's today. It got colder as the day progressed, and there was a nasty NW wind gusting. Today is supposed to clear, but remain colder than normal for late Nov. No snow in the forecast for the next few days. Too bad for the deer hunters who rely on a snow cover to track the animals.
11/24/2019 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today is mostly sunny with a few white clouds floating in a blue sky. The AM temp was 29 degrees. The farmers are taking advantage of the few dry days we have had to harvest corn and beans. Much of those crops have been harvested around here, but there are still many fields of mostly corn still not harvested. From what I have heard and read in the local paper, the crops that have been harvested were not that bad considering the poor planting and harvesting conditions. There are just small traces of snow remaining on the ground now.
11/25/2019 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today's temp is above freezing at 33 degrees under an overcast sky. It feels like rain on some form of precip could happen. Yesterday NWS hinted that someone could get up to 4" of snow on Tues. PM into Wed. They are not sure of the storm track yet so one can hope the predictions are wrong. It has been so helpful to be able to drive up to the house rather than switching to the Ranger. We did cut up some more of the downed trees in the yard and now have some small pine branches to start the fires. Actually they are cedar and some Scotch Pine.
11/26/2019 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Another mostly sunny and mild day at 35 degrees.
11/28/2019 7:00 AM M M M M M I woke up to a mixture of rain and snow at 0630 yesterday. It snowed pretty hard until around 10AM. Because the temp was near freezing, most of it melted so I cannot get a measurement. The ground was white, though so perhaps around an inch. Today very little remains on the ground although the temp is the coldest it has been for several days at 26 degrees. Yesterday was very windy. Today is cold, but that awful wind is mostly gone. When I tried to remove the gauge from its perch, it was frozen solid, so cannot measure what is in it! I think I is time to retire it for the winter! Maybe I can convince husband to put up a snow board again.
11/29/2019 7:00 AM M 0.2 M M M It did snow a little overnight, the heavy wet kind you see in late spring. It is still snowing with a little rain in the mixture. The Am temp was just 30 degrees. It is heavily overcast, and precipitation is predicted to fall most of the day with the worst starting this evening and continuing through Sat.
11/30/2019 7:00 AM M 0.0 M M M
12/1/2019 7:00 AM M 0.0 M M M I finally got the rain gauge out of its holder, so there will be not more rain reports until spring. If the rain we have gotten in the past three days had been in the form of snow, we would have been buried. Today is dark and overcast with a little drizzle in the air. Difficult to tell if it is moisture coming from the many trees we have or really rain. Honestly I would prefer snow to this endless rain. The poor farmers are harvesting corn In all of this mess. We drove to near Madison on Friday, and there were numerous harvesters out on the roads and in the fields. The reposts say the yield is actually pretty good considering the season they've had.
12/2/2019 7:00 AM 0.02 M M M M Yesterday began overcast and quite warm compared to today which is sunny, but cold at 22 degrees. I just took Ivory, our new 1 yr. old dog, for a short walk up in the field. The ground is white and the sidewalk was pretty much ice covered. It was nice to see the sun out first thing in the morning. We saw a lone deer that was probably eating the left over squash and little pumpkins in the garden At least one did not get shot, although there were seven who survived at the salt lick at suppertime yesterday. There were also two female cardinals at the bird feeder. The crows were upset this morning and cawing up a storm. My best guess is one of the owls was in the pine trees.
12/3/2019 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M No rain, sleet or snow overnight. Today is mostly cloudy, but there are peeks of the sun showing through. The nest few days are supposed to remain dry. The first time we have had more than two days of dry weather in a long time. Hopefully the corn will get harvested.
12/4/2019 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Another bright sunny day with a temp of 28 degrees. Too bad it wasn't nice for the Holiday last week!
12/5/2019 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today is shaping up to be another beautiful late fall day. It was mostly cloudy when I got up at 0630, but the it has now become partly sunny. The early morning temp was 23 degrees. The remainder of this week is supposed to be warm and sunny with no precip, but nest week it is going to get very cold, probably normal temps for early Dec.
12/6/2019 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M It was a little warmer today at 39 degrees under a cloudless blue sky. A perfect late fall day if the sun continues to shine and the wind does not get any stronger. Lots of outside work to accomplish before the real winter sets in which is supposed to be next week. I'm not ready for near zero temps just yet, although it is not that unusual for the cold to set in in early December.
12/7/2019 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today is sunny with a temp of 25 degrees under a clear blue sky. This will be one of the last nice days for a while as rain /snow is expected on Monday and Tuesday along with very cold temps.
12/9/2019 7:00 AM M 0.0 M M M It was raining when I got up shortly after 6:30AM. Today is supposed to get colder, it was 34 degrees early, but will get down to the single digits or colder overnight. Tomorrow will have snow, very little here in SW Wisc., but the temps could get below zero with very cold wind chills. I guess winter has officially arrived, just a few days before the sun reaches the tropic of Capricorn on Dec. 22nd.
12/10/2019 7:00 AM T M M M M Today dawned bright and sunny with a temp of just 3 degrees. We had a brief rain/snow shower in the morning then after noon it began to get cold causing the rain to freeze on the road. I walked out onto the parking lot around 3PM and suddenly realize I was standing on glare ice. Not a good thing when you have a little dog pulling on the leash! I made it safely to dry land thanks to some leaves on the surface. I guess winter has arrived with a vengeance!
12/11/2019 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Another nice day with bright sunshine, although with a stiff wind and a temp of 9 degrees, it is not pleasant being outside.
12/13/2019 7:00 AM M T M M M There was some rain/sleet/snow that fell yesterday. The roads were very icy for a short period just after noon. Our driveway, the asphalt, is covered with a white mixture of frozen rain, sleet and perhaps a little snow. It still remains covered now after 10 AM since the temp is still below freezing. It was just 23 degrees at 7AM. Hope it warms up enough to melt whatever is on the parking lot and road.
12/14/2019 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M No precip overnight although the AM temp was a chilly 22 degrees. So far no more snow, in fact they say there will be little of it through Christmas. If we don't have to shovel or plow, that is a good thing! Maybe today we can put up the tree and perhaps get into the festive spirit.
12/15/2019 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today is mostly sunny, but very cold with a temp of just 4 degrees. It did clear off sometime after 11:30PM, but I wasn't about to go out to look for the meteor shower since it was cold out there! Perhaps tonight it will be clear and viewing will be possible at a decent hour. It is supposed to be clear and no snow for several days. If it warms up a bit
12/16/2019 7:00 AM M 0.1 M M M It did snow a little overnight, but not enough to qualify for a white Christmas. Oh, well, we have another week to worry about that. Our up north relatives would just as soon the piles of snow they have would go away.
12/17/2019 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Another dreary day with a temp of 18 degrees. Tomorrow is supposed to dip into the deep freeze, then a warm up is expected for the week end and beyond. No white Christmas is expected. That is a good thing for those planning to travel over the holidays.
12/18/2019 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M A cold front passed through here last PM bringing low AM temps. Today it was 2 degrees, but there will be sunshine. Now that we have a new little 1 year old dog that has to be taken out on a leash, I appreciate the cold mornings when there is s thick layer of frost up in the field. Since she is a very lively creature. we get plenty of exercise. I think she would run all over the 15 acres if I could keep up with her. She has a very long nose, unlike the pugs we have had for over 20 years that have little stamina, especially in the heat.
12/19/2019 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M It was a little warmer this AM at 15 degrees under a clear sky. Hope it stys that way all day instead of clouding over. We still have lots of wood to cut. Not a pleasant task when the temps are so cold.
12/20/2019 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Looks like it is going to be another sunny day with unseasonably warm temps. After all the gloomy and rainy days, we deserve this! No rain or snow expected for several days either.
12/21/2019 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Looks to be another beautiful day. It almost felt like spring out there this AM. I wish we could fast forward to March 21 instead of December. Skipping the worst of winter would be great, but unfortunately it isn't possible!
12/23/2019 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Looks like today is going to be another unseasonably warm on with clear blue skies and a starting temp of 31 degrees. While I don't mine having a "brown" Christmas, this weather is great for harvesting wood and will give the farmers who have not harvested their corn yet a chance to do so.
12/24/2019 7:00 AM M M M M M Today is dark and misty with fog. Visibility must be very low, not good for travelers. The AM temp was 32 degrees so it must not have been below freezing overnight. Certainly not what one would expect on the night before Christmas.
12/25/2019 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today is mostly overcast with a temp of 34 degrees. This is supposed to be the warmest Christmas in 25 years. I have a picture taken in 1982, on this day, of my wash hanging on the clothes line in Milwaukee. I think it was close to 60 degrees that day. If someone is trying to say this is climate change today, well I don't think so! We are supposed to return to normal winter on Saturday.
12/27/2019 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today is cooler at 29 degrees on the way to 36 degrees. Rain is expected for Saturday night, perhaps up to an inch or more. It will be OK unless the weather turns colder, which one would expect in winter. Nothing worse than ice and inch thick on everything that remains for what seems like weeks.
12/28/2019 7:00 AM M M M M M There were a few drops of rain, or should I say mist, in the air at 0700 this AM. When I took the little dog for a walk around 11AM there was a strong wind gusting, but the temp had risen to 33 degrees from 31 at 7AM. The real rain is supposed to hit this evening and overnight with maybe up to 2" with perhaps a thunder storm. Monday may bring snow north of I-94. The forecast is not really set in stone yet. I hope we do not get a lot of snow or freezing rain.
12/29/2019 7:00 AM M M M M M It felt more like March than December today. The AM temp was 50 degrees at 7:00. There is a strong south wind blowing so it does not feel very warm! The frost is starting to come out of the ground which is not a good thing this time of year. Did not put out the rain gauge last PM because it was close to freezing last PM.
12/30/2019 7:00 AM 0.00 T M M M
12/31/2019 7:00 AM M 1.5 0.15 M M It started to snow yesterday around 1:30P and continued to snow, however so lightly, until after dark. Winter is definitely back with a morning temp o f21 degrees and 1 1/2" of snow on the ground. I guess it is a little late for a white Christmas, but we will have a white New Year. That should make the winter sports people happy, although this is not enough for snowmobiling or maybe even skiing. The ski hills will have to make their own!
1/1/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M It was very cold this AM at just 13 degrees. Now at 3:25 it is above freezing and the sun is out. Tomorrow is supposed to reach into the 40's. It could stay this way for the rest of the winter, but I know that is not possible! A few warmer days will be fine. They say the snow, what little we have, will melt in the next few days.
1/2/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M It felt like spring again today. Too bad it isn't near time for that! The AM temp was 34 degrees under a bright and sunny blue sky. If the sun stays out it will be a beautiful winter day.
1/3/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M A little cooler today with not sunshine from an overcast sky. There could be some light snow later today. I miss the wood heat since hubby is a bit under the weather with his blood sugar not behaving as it should. Too much holiday food?? He is definitely back on track now. Since we filled the LP tank while the road was clear of snow, we can splurge and use it more than we ordinarily would this time of year.
1/4/2020 7:00 AM M 0.1 M M M It started to snow sometime before 10PM. It was snowing quite hard, but must not have lasted very long because the total snow was somewhere around 0.01". barley enough to cover the ground; there was none under the trees. Today was quite chilly at 24 degrees with a gusting wind.
1/5/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M another overcast day with a temp of 28 degrees, about normal for this time of year. It did finally clear off yesterday in early afternoon, but was quite windy making it feel colder than the air tempo. Much of the snow has melted now. but there are icy patches where there were piles of snow that had been plowed or shoveled. The road is entirely clear, the blacktop that is, so the dogs and I can walk.
1/6/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today is a bit colder at 21 degrees, probably normal for early January, but there is bright sunshine in a clear blue sky. Yesterday clouded over again and remained quite windy. I need to pick up more sticks for the fire and today seems like a good tome to do it.
1/7/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M NO snow overnight and the temp was a warm 30 degrees. It was predicted to be colder today, but so far not true. There is a nasty wind again today. Walking yesterday in the open field was quite unpleasant because of the NW wing that was quite chilly.
1/8/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Much colder today, more like winter should be at just 7 degrees with bright sunshine in an azure blue sky. It is supposed to warm up then remain cold for the rest of the month. Some snow expected on the week end.
1/9/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M T M Today is much warmer with a temp of 27 degrees under a dreary, overcast sky. It really does feel like it could rain or snow anytime. There is also quite a strong south wind making it feel colder than the ambient temperature. We seem to have a lot of wind these days! Big storm on the way for the weekend! There is very little snow remaining on the ground now, just places where it was piled or along the road where we plowed.
1/10/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today is still mile for almost mid January at 24 degrees.
1/11/2020 7:00 AM M 0.2 M M M It was snowing at 10PM when we take the dogs out, and they were very wet, especially Ivory who has a very fluffy white coat and loves to play in the snow. So different from the pugs who do not like to get wet! I don't remember much, only that I had a little Spitz (now called American Eskimo) dog named Muggsy when I was a kid probably 6 - 8 years old, and he got bitten by a rabid (at least that was what was assumed) and had to be put down. I can remember being very upset because he was my dog and I loved him dearly. I'm like Ramsey, I don't like to play in the snow, but I have to go out and measure what fell last night. According to yesterday's forecast, we are supposed to get another few inches later today and tonight. The most is predicted to fall to our north east. I wonder if Green Bay will get dug out in time for the big game??[ If travel is bad, many people stay in hotels in Milwaukee which is a fair drive from Green Bay That will be a real mess!!!
1/13/2020 7:00 AM M 2.0 0.15 M M Much warmer today at 27 degrees. It is really quite pretty with all the newly fallen snow on the ground and trees. I would call this a typical winter snow, not real wet and not really dry either.
1/14/2020 7:00 AM M 0.8 M M M It did snow overnight, a heavy, wet snow more like late March than January.
1/15/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today is a bit cooler at 18 degrees, but without that awful west wind of yesterday, it really doesn't feel that bad. The beautiful 1/2 waning moon just hung in the SW sky like it was painted there. We were supposed to have a rain/snow storm starting early this AM, but so far nothing yet. NWS says it will appear later this AM with icing and some snow. I can hardly wait as I have a 1:30 appointment in S. Grove. Things are quite a mess around here after the slushy, wet snow partially melted, then re-froze on the parking lot. Hope it gets warm enough to melt at least some of the ice and frozen snow.
1/16/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Very cold today at -2 degrees, the coldest so far this season. Hope it does not last too long. Don't want another polar vortex again this year!
1/17/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today is still cold at just 4 degrees. It is very dark and gloomy, getting ready to snow. We do not know how much because the storm track may change. I can hardly wait, although it may not be the 6 - 8 inches that were predicted yesterday.
1/18/2020 7:00 AM M 2.3 0.35 M M Woke up to a winter wonderland today, and it is still snowing, however not very much. The snow seemed quite heavy, but not as bad as the last storm. The moisture contend was high. The AM temp was a warm 25 degrees compared to the last two days when it was around zero. The snow lovers should be happy!
1/19/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M It was very cold again today at just zero degrees. Yesterday became very windy and with the extremely low temps, being outside was not pleasant. At least the dogs do their business and run for the house! The two pugs do not like snow or cold, but Ivory, the American Eskimo mix, digs her nose in the snow bank multiple times and rolls in the snow.
1/20/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M No snow overnight, however now it is starting to snow however little. I could not tell if it was snow or fog, but now there are larger flakes gently drifting sown. NWS says we could get up to an inch of the stuff before it is supposed to stop by 9AM.
1/21/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M It is very cold today at just 2 degrees, but without that strong North wind it does not feel so bad. The poor dog got cold feet. Perhaps I should buy her some booties. From past experience, dogs do not like their feet covered or restricted so they can't run around as fast. At least the sun is shining in a clear blue sky. Actually it is quite pretty out there with the clean, white snow contrasting with the green pines and the dark trees, More snow is predicted to arrive on Wednesday.
1/22/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today is overcast and dreary with a temp of 22 degrees. Snow is expected later today and this evening. It is supposed to snow form today into the week end.
1/23/2020 7:00 AM M 3.0 M M M
1/24/2020 7:00 AM M 0.9 M M M It snowed off and on all day yesterday and is still snowing now. Difficult to tell if there is rain mixed in with it since I have no rain gauge out now. The snow is very wet and heavy, more like a late spring snow than a mid winter one. My husband just came in from feeding the birds on the deck and said it is now raining at 8:30AM. Not good if this freezes. Last year we had so much ice it was just terrible. Cold not plow the road because the ice under the snow caused the plow to have not traction whatsoever. We do not have chains that fit the Ranger and do not like to use them because they tear up the blacktop.
1/25/2020 7:00 AM M 0.1 M M M I was expecting to wake up to 5 inches of new snow this AM. Instead I could barley measure 0.1 inch. The radar on the 6 O'clock news showed a huge snow storm traveling from east to west and was already in SE WI. It was expected to arrive here around 9:30 last evening. I wonder what happened to it. Someone mush have gotten a lot of snow. There was absolutely nothing on the La Crosse radar this morning! Not a bit sorry, though. It is warm at 32 degrees and is expected to stay that way through mid week. How did we escape all of this weather?
1/26/2020 7:00 AM M 0.0 M M M no rain or snow overnight and the AM temp was a warm 27 degrees. The next 3 days or so are supposed to remain warm for late January. We will probably be rewarded with a polar vortex or some awful cold after that. One can only hope for an early spring, by that I mean no big snow storms in April like there were last year. It snowed in April and then again in October.
1/29/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M No snow again and the AM temp is a chilly 20 degrees. It is expected to warm up to the 40's by Sunday. This "warm" weather could stay for the remainder of the winter, but I'm sure it won't. After all, this is Wisconsin! I was happy to see 2 male cardinals in the feeders. A few years ago it wasn't unusual to see at least a dozen of them. I read where the bird population is sown 30% due to many factors such as loss of habitat both here and in their winter p[laces, and on the path during migration.
1/30/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M another rather cool morning with a temp of 22 degrees under an overcast sky. We have no seen the sun all week. They say perhaps by Sunday PM some of the doom and gloom will clear and we may have some sunshine.
1/31/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Another overcast, dark and gloomy day with a temp of 26 degrees. We will all have "prison pallor if this doesn't end soon! There will be many cases of sadd. It is expected to become sunny and warmer on Monday. Of course it may be sunny on Groundhog's day this Sunday just so we can have 6 more weeks of winter!
2/1/2020 7:00 AM M 0.8 M M M It did snow most of the afternoon, but only two big showers contributed much to the accumulation. It was very light and fluffy. The highest temp was 36 degrees, thus much of the snow melted. The driveway was almost completely bare except for a few random places where the snow stuck. Very difficult to measure anywhere. There is quite a lot of snow still on the ground from previous storms.
2/2/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M For the first time in 10 days I was able to see the sun rise this AM. Hard to believe we have had a week and a half of nothing but overcast days. I see some clouds filtering in now so it probably will not last. Temps today are supposed to reach the mid 40's. It was 36 degrees before 7:00 today. If the sun stays out it more than likely will get much warmer. Yesterday was nice since the dun did come out after noon, but there was a fierce west wind making it seem much colder than the air temp.
2/3/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M No rain or snow overnight and the AM temp was 28 degrees under partly sunny skies. Yesterday did reach into the mid 40' before turning colder later in the afternoon.
2/4/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today is mostly sunny. but cold at just 22 degrees which is probably close to normal for early Feb.and a nasty north wind is blowing. Yesterday did stay on the warm side in the mid 30's. Much of the snow around here has melted. Places that were plowed up in the field are now bare as is the road and most of the parking lot. There is still plenty of snow where it was shoveled or plowed. More is expected on Wed night, but not a lot.
2/5/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M No rain or snow over night. The temp was a cool 16 degrees, the coldest it has been for a while, under a mostly overcast sky with a few peeks of the sun visible. Some snow expected tomorrow and again for Friday which could produce some accumulation.
2/6/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Another cold day with a temp of just 13 degrees under a clear blue sky with bright sunshine. It has not been above freezing all week. A big snow storm is predicted for Sunday. Have to wait to see where and how much snow there could be. We're growing tired of winter, so I hope it won't be of the 6" variety. Out road is almost passable now, so it is about time for more snow!
2/7/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M It is cold again today at 13 degrees under a partially overcast sky with a few patches of blue showing through. Today is expected to remain colder than it has been with highs maybe reaching 30 degrees. The big snow is to arrive on Sunday with perhaps 3 to 6 inches. here with more to our north.
2/8/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M It is beginning g to snow now, s little more than it was at 7:00. I think the weather people miss judged this storm since it was not supposed to snow this AM! Hopefully they are wrong on the 4"-8" of snow we could receive. It was really nice to be able to drive up to the house for two days this week. I fear it will be another month if predictions are correct!
2/9/2020 7:30 AM M 2.6 M M M It has been snowing at a rate of 1"/hr. since we have been up this AM. It is not heavy, wet snow as predicted, but light and almost fluffy, like a winter storm as apposed to early spring storm. We may be stuck here if more than 5" fall because our snow plow cannot handle that much snow.
2/10/2020 7:00 AM M 6.0 M M M It snowed almost all day yesterday, sometimes at the rate of an inch/hour. Thankfully it was not the heavy wet variety so we were able to plow it by doing so about three times. Today we are in the deep freeze with an AM temp of just 3 degrees. That is the coldest it has been for quite some time, certainly in the month of February. We cannot complain too much about the cold so far this winter. I think the RV weather guy said we had not had any sub zero temps so far this season. That is about to change later this week when sub zero temps are expected on Thurs. AM.
2/11/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today is quite cold at 15 degrees under an overcast sky. We had a total of 8.3" of snow with yesterday's storm, the most so far this season. We are pretty much dug out now after plowing, snow blowing, and a little shoveling. The cold is supposed to arrive on Thurs. with -10 degree temps expected, the first sub zero so far this winter. There is also more snow, only a few inches, predicted for two days this week.
2/12/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M There is mostly sunshine today, but the temp is still relatively cold at 25 degrees now(8:21AM). The worst is yet to come tonight with the air temp around -10 degrees with a wind chill as low as -35 degrees. No plans to go ANYWHERE tomorrow or Friday. Not good when you have three dogs that have to go out!
2/13/2020 7:00 AM M 0.6 M M M We did get a little fluffy snow in late afternoon, but it did now accumulate much. The bad thing about today is the fierce North wind. Even tho the temp is still at +6 degrees, it feels much colder. I wore my warmest coat, a big knot hat, and my bean boots I still felt the cold while feeding the critters and birds on the deck and outside. They are eating a great deal of deeds, bot the oiled sunflower seed and cracked corn.
2/14/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today is the coldest by far of this season at -19 degrees, although the sun is out and there is less wind than there was yesterday it does not feel as cold. Do not plan on going out today! I fed the birds and other critters, and that is the extent of my outdoor adventures. Taking the three dogs out is sort of a waste of time since it is so cold their feet start to hurt and they can think of nothing but getting back into the house.
2/15/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today is mostly overcast with a temp of 16 degrees. That actually feels "warm" after what we have been experiencing the past few days. No more snow either!
2/16/2020 7:00 AM M 0.0 M M M It is still on the colder side with an AM temp of 16 degrees. Yesterday was quite windy from the south, but it did not bring much warm air with it. The highest temp I saw in the afternoon was 33 degrees. Today is mostly overcast, and it almost feels like it could snow. It is predicted for later on in the week, then some more arctic air is going to arrive. I can hardly wait!
2/17/2020 7:00 AM M 0.5 M M M Today is overcast, but warmer at 25 degrees. It snowed off an on yesterday, perhaps a little rain mixed in too. I did not check the temp, but it must have been above freezing because some of the snow melted. The earlier snow was fine, but the last batch that came sometime before 4:00 was of the light and fluffy variety. It was very difficult to measure exactly how much snow did fall because it fell on snow already there plus some of it must have melted as well.
2/18/2020 7:00 AM M 6.0 M M M We had the most snow of the season yesterday. It started out slow in the morning around 10AM and was still snowing past 10PM. There was a brief time in early afternoon when it stopped for a few hours, then began again. around supper time. The afternoon snow was of the very wet and heavy variety, very difficult to shovel or plow because it stuck to everything. Today dawned sunny and beautiful with the trees laden with layers of new clean, white, snow that made the world a winter wonderland. Greatful we do not have to go out today!
2/19/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today is very cold at just 0 degrees. Thankfully it is not supposed to remain this cold for very long. With all this newly fallen snow contrasted against the beautiful intense blue sky, it is really very beautiful around here; that is if one does not have to be outside for very long.
2/20/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today is clear and sunny, but the temp was -12 degrees at 7:00. Not much of a wind, so the chill factor is not too great, otherwise being outdoors would be horrible! It is expected to warm up in the nest three days, perhaps even reach into the 40's by Sunday.
2/21/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M It was 24 degrees warmer at +12 degrees today than it was yesterday. The sun is out again and already feels warmer than it did in January. Maybe spring will come after all. It is starting to be light at 7:00 also, but that will change in a couple of weeks when we transition to day light savings time..
2/22/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Another beautiful sunny, warm (21 degrees) day. Hopefully it will warm up into the 40's today. This beats those overcast, gloomy, and cold days we had for such a long stretch. Hard to believe that there is one more week left in the Month of February.
2/23/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Another beautiful clear and sunny day with a warm temp of 42 degrees at 8:30AM. It did freeze overnight, though, because when I was out feeding the critters, there was not thawing then at a little after 7AM. This could last until real spring arrives hopefully next month. We did loose a lot of snow yesterday and will lose more today. Our blacktop road is totally clear of snow, and the other part is starting to clear where the plow removed mush of the snow on the roadway. I will try to measure "snow on the ground" tomorrow which I have not done yet this season. No fun digging in the pile of snow which is still many inches deep.
2/24/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today is partly sunny with a temp of 27 degrees. Yesterday was a perfect day with sunshine moat of the day and temps in the middle 40's. I would say about half of our snow pack had melted over the past two days. Now the storm we were expecting tomorrow night has been cancelled here. Maybe we will get rid of more snow after all. It would be nice to be able to drive the truck up the house again.
2/25/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 5.5 2.60 Today is still on the warm side at 29 degrees, but overcast and windy. The storm we were expecting did not materialize here, but stayed to our south. That is a good thing since we really do not need any more snow this winter. I did go out and measure snow on the ground yesterday. It was not easy picking a spot since the animals, dogs, deer, rabbits, etc. have tracks all over the snow. Of course my little white fluff ball names Ivory was jumping and running all over while I was looking for a place to measure. The temp was in the 40's and the snow was melting at the time as it had been for three days.
2/26/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Much colder today with a starting temp of 22 degrees with a nasty N wind gusting. Today and tomorrow are expected to be chilly and overcast. The sun is expected to appear for the week end.
2/27/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today is sunny, but cold with a temp at 8AM of 25 degrees. Today is supposed to remain cool before a warm up for the week end.
2/28/2020 7:00 AM M 0.2 M M M Woke up to snow on the ground. Just a little more than a dusting, but a surprise none the less.
2/29/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today started out with a cold temp of just 4 degrees at around 7 , the coldest it has been for a while. Now it haw warmed up to 25 degrees in less than two hours. The power of a very late winter sun. Tomorrow is predicted to be in the 50's which is quite warm for early March. Sadly there is much winter yet to come. I can remember many March snow storms that were the worst of the year. In 2019 there were two big snows in April of over 6" each. Hope that is not the case this year. We have not had an early spring since 2012, which was bad because the whole season was at least a month ahead of normal. We don't travel much at night, but we went to Viroqua for Mexican food since it was Lee's birthday, and on the way home, it was a beautiful, clear, cold, night I watched the crescent moon with Jupiter not far away. I did recognize Orion also. One does forget things when the Astronomy class I had as a sophomore at UWP was in the summer of 1960!
3/1/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M
3/2/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today is overcast and breezy with a temp of 33 degrees. This entire week, in fact the first two weeks of March are supposed to have above normal temps. It would be nice to get rid of some of the dirty snow that is piled up around here.
3/3/2020 7:00 AM M 0.2 M M M Woke up shortly after 6:30 this AM to huge clumps of snow falling. BY the time I got downstairs, it had stopped and there was a big patch of blue sky. I found measuring it very difficult because it was in small clumps. The AM temp was 29 degrees. It is supposed to remain warm for the remainder of the week with snow today and again on Thurs.
3/4/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M It did freeze overnight, and the AM temp was 28 degrees. It is predicted to warm into the 50's again, but did not get clos to that mark yesterday which remained in the low 40's with a strong gusting west wins that made it feel even colder. We still have plenty of snow on the ground which does not help the warming situation. The 60's are predicted for Sunday. I'll believe that when I see it!
3/5/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today is mostly overcast and it has started to rain now. The sky was black and threatening earlier and rain was predicted. The AM temp was a warm 37 degrees.
3/6/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 T M M M There were a couple of snow squalls in the morning and than later in the afternoon. It was snowing when I took the dog out after supper. With the wind, it was very unpleasant. The temp remained above the freezing mark, so difficult to measure just how much snow there actually was.
3/8/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today started out partly cloudy with a temp of 38 degrees. It is now sunny at 12:50 PM and much warmer. The snow is melting at a fast pace here. Not sorry to see it go, but for certain there will be more to take its place.
3/9/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M It was pitch black when I got up around 6:50AM. The sky was overcast and the temp was 50 degrees, quite warm for early March. It is supposed to rain most of the day, then snow later on in the week. Temps are expected to stay warm for the first half of March.
3/10/2020 7:00 AM M M M M M
3/11/2020 7:00 AM M 0.0 M M M Today is very foggy. but warm with a temp of 38 degrees. The fog had now cleared but everything is just dripping from all of the humidity in the air. This is a good day to stay indoors and accomplish some of the things that I have been putting off. Most of the snow piles here have mostly melted making the entire area a big mess of mud, wet leaves and pine needles.
3/12/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M It was very dark this AM, and started to rain a little after 7:00. This will probably help to melt the remaining snow on the ground here. Things are very muddy and messy around here. No fun when 9 muddy paws come in the house after running through the mud!
3/13/2020 7:00 AM 0.39 0.0 M M M There is sunshine today, but it is cold, 29 degrees and windy. The sunshine makes it feel much better out there! It did rain much of the day yesterday and remained quite cool. The sun finally did show itself in late afternoon, probably after 4pm.
3/14/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Another overcast and cool day with a temp of 29 degrees. Yesterday stayed sunny all day, but did not seem very warm due to a strong NNW wind that gusted all day.
3/15/2020 7:00 AM M T M M M It did snow, a sudden squall around noon. It did snow enough to cover the ground in grassy areas and some still remains today. Today is sunny, but remains very cool at 22 degrees. The sunshine is nice, but the cold not so much. I doubt that we are going to have a warm and early spring.
3/16/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M
3/17/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today will be sunny, but it is already very windy making the 27 degree temp feel much colder. Although yesterday remained overcast, it did not feel this cold due to no wind. We still have piles of old snow left where it was blown or plowed. Most of what fell in the last storm melted because it was above freezing when it fell.
3/18/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M
3/19/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M
3/20/2020 7:00 AM 1.71 T M M M It rained all day yesterday, than snowed when the temp dropped overnight. Not much snow, but plenty of rain! The Kickapoo River near here is almost at flood stage which is expected to be reached on Wed. The ground is saturated with no where for the water to go. It does not appear to be frozen either.
3/21/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today is mostly sunny with just a gentle breeze blowing. Yesterday remained cold and very windy from the north making it quite unpleasant to be outdoors. Even little white dog with lots of fur did not like to stay out very long. There is still some snow remaining from the last squall in shady places in the woods.
3/22/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today is supposed to be warmer, but so far it is 27 degrees, but the sun is trying to shine. There is a strong wind busting, I think from the SE, at least that is what it feels like. Not very nice outside now!
3/23/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M The temp today was warmer at 32 degrees with little wind. It does actually feel a little like spring; the birds were singing and the woodpeckers were drilling. We did go for our usual walk up in the field, but did not see any Blue Birds, but plenty of Robins. Perhaps today with less wind they will be out and about. We have to go up and clean out the houses. Last year the Wrens took over most of them so they are full of sticks.
3/24/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M A little warmer today with a temp of 36 degrees under an overcast sky. It is getting boring with no sunshine or warmth. We are mostly confined to home, and our great Gov. has just implemented sty at home orders for the state!! I have no idea how many cases of Coavid 19 we have, but it isn't that many, but he must know something that we citizens do not! Last week my husband went grocery shopping as we do every week, and he was unable to find basic items like bread and oatmeal. We shop in a small town near here with just one big supermarket, that is by not means "cutting edge", but does stock more items than many local stores around here. He will go wherever he has to to get what we need. Wait until he runs out of cat food! I guess there is always CHEWY, where we get canned dog food by the case, and treats in the form of rolls which I cut up and package pieces to use as rewards for certain behaviors. It is cheaper and the food, regular dog food, is good for the animals and they love it.
3/25/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Another overcast day with a warmer temp of 39 degrees. At least it isn't raining. That will come later today and is supposed to last for a couple of days.
3/26/2020 7:00 AM 0.05 0.0 M M M Another gloomy, dark and dank day with an overcast sky and a temp of 39 degrees. Yesterday was the warmest we 've had all week into the 50's. I think today is predicted to be rainy and remain cooler. The rhubarb is beginning to peak out of the ground and the early flowers are up also. There were so many leaves last fall that until I can rake them off the beds it will be difficult to see the emerging flowers. I did dig around and uncovered a couple of places where there were shoots starting to emerge. Hopefully spring will come eventually. This cool and damp weather is not helping the flowers to grow and bloom. I did mot get any new bulbs planted last fall, and did not put the bulbs in a cool place so I could plant them now either.
3/28/2020 7:00 AM 0.25 0.0 M M M Today is gloomy and overcast with a little drizzle falling. It was raining when I went to bed last night, with some thunder and lightning as well. Our first thunder storm of the Spring season. It seems early, but It is almost April, which is our rainy season, so to speak. It is expected to rain all of today and into Sunday as well. Last year we had two big snow storms in April. Lets hope it stays warmer this April!
3/29/2020 7:00 AM 0.65 0.0 M M M Today is a carbon copy of the days of the past week with a drizzle falling from an over cast sky and a temp of 40 degrees, It did rain yesterday, although not until late in the day, but it was still raining at 10PM. I expected more rain in the gauge, but that is good so maybe we won't have flooding here. Where it was really bad was just to out west in NE Iowa where there were tornados on the radar, severe thunder storms, of which we had some starting around 7:30PM and lasting past 10:00. This is the first time since we have had DISH network, that the TV was out because of the rain! It was always out with DirecTV! I have not looked at the local weather, so do not know if any of those tornados touched down in Iowa.

3/31/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today is the second one in a row with bright sunshine in a clear blue sky. There were a few clouds later in the day and it was quite windy. We seem to have a lot of wind the past few years. I guess I remember flying kites in March as a kid. We would buy a kit at the dime store, put it together and go out and fly it. Making the tail was also a challenge, and getting the thing to get off the ground was quite a chore as well. When it did fly that was an accomplishment. I think today's kids miss out on a lot of fun things we used to do back in the 40's or even when my sons were growing up in the 60's. I blame most of this on Steve Jobs!! We bought this place, 60 acres in the middle of no where, just so they could have some of the experiences we had as kids living on farms(minus the animals.)
4/1/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Another sunny day with a clear blue sky and a temp of 28 degrees. Yesterday became cloudy and windy from the North West making being outside very unpleasant. I hope today stays sunny and gets a bit warmer.
4/2/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M What started out as a sunny, cloudless day has become overcast for the most part, and probably will not get too warm if the sun does not shine. Here in Western WI the temps got into the mid 50"s while along the eastern coast of Lake Michigan, it was 40 degrees with a strong NE wind blowing over the very cold waters of the big lake. Having lived there for most of my life, I have learned that Milwaukee has two seasons, summer and winter, and nothing in between! One can hope April will bring some warmer weather. Last year we had two big snow storms of over 4" in April, and it never warmed up until June.
4/3/2020 7:00 AM 0.03 0.0 M M M Today is overcast and it had rained sometime overnight, although not very much. It is unseasonably warm with a temp of 51 degrees.
4/4/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today is cold,27 degrees, with a stiff north wind gusting. It was overcast, but the clouds are beginning to clear. According to the TV weatherman, it is supposed to be a sunny day and warm up into the 50's. It has a long way to go. At least it did not snow because the temp was warm yesterday PM, but dropped like a stone later in the evening from a high in the 60's to the low 40's in just a short while when that cold front came through.
4/5/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today is sunny, but cool with a temp of 27 degrees. It is supposed to reach into the 60'x today. Hope the sunshine stays around which will help he temps stay a bit warmer.
4/7/2020 7:00 AM 0.22 0.0 M M M Today is overcast and foggy with a temp of 49 degrees.
4/8/2020 7:00 AM 0.01 0.0 M M M Another foggy overcast day, and it has started to rain now at 7:30. Yesterday did get warm, into the 70's in places, and the sun finally came out which helped to warm it up. The "Pink" moon last night was huge and very beautiful as it rose in the eastern sky. They say that is the last big moon we will see all year. The TV weather said the cold front will arrive in later afternoon and last a few days. I can hardly wait! We have gotten spoiled with the warm March we had, and now April seems to be a little cooler.
4/9/2020 7:00 AM 0.36 0.0 M M M Today is back to winter with a temp of just 34 degrees with a stiff north wind gusting. I guess we have gotten spoiled with the warmer weather we had in early March. I even heard some mention of perhaps snow in the days to come. I remember many timed when the spring flowers were peeking out from a few inches of snow. I hope they are wrong, but not uncommon to have snow throughout the month of April and even into May. A steady light rain fell most of the day yesterday, but it did clear off in late afternoon. The beautiful almost full moon was visible at 9PM.
4/10/2020 7:00 AM 0.01 M M M M Today is the coldest it has been for quite some time at 29 degrees. Yesterday afternoon we had two snow showers. The first one in early afternoon actually was a small blizzard for a short while, all different types of snow from huge round flakes to large fluffy ones. The snow did stay on the ground for a while. The later one was less intense and did not produce much snow. All of it melted after the sun came out. There was little liquid in the gauge this AM.
4/11/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M today is warmer and there is some sunshine. Yesterday was a very depressing one because it stayed overcast and gloomy all day. finding a huge mess the mouse(mice) made in the RAV over the winter did not help. They managed to chew up at least a half box of Kleenex, and made holes all over a roll of paper towel. I presume they were making a nest. My husband said I better not reach into the box because there could be baby mice in all the mess. Many years ago (2000) I was eating my lunch in the park in Fennimore and for some unknown reason reached between the seats, and came up with a baby mouse. Good thing the only thing I fear is birds! I was attack by a Banty Hen when I was about 5 or 6 years old, and have been afraid of birds ever since.

4/13/2020 7:00 AM 0.53 T M M M Today is the coldest in a while with a very blustery north wind gusting making it seem even colder. The temp at 7AM was 29 degrees, so cold I could not get the rain gauge out of the holder or remove the cap which had snow in it because it was frozen onto the gauge. Will try later as the sun is shining on it so it should warm up a bit. There was 0.45" of rain in the small tube, but the melted snow amt. is unknown at this time. Will also measure the snow on the ground which is only a frachion of an inch.
4/14/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M It is even colder today at just 23 degrees, but there is no wind which helps it feel not quite so cold. It is not supposed to warm up until Friday. The ground still has a light dusting of snow that hasn't melted yet I think March and April got reversed! Much of March had above normal temps.
4/15/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today is the coldest yet at just 20 degrees. This must be the price we pay for bright sunshine in a clear blue sky. No rain or snow either! What a choice! Perhaps it will warm up a bit today, but I doubt it since the forecast is for a warm up on Friday. The ground is still white where the remaining snow from the showers we had a couple of days ago. Where the sun doesn't reach, which is most of the area around the house, never gets warm enough to melt it!
4/16/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M It was one degree warmer this AM at 21 degrees than it was yesterday. Thank goodness this is only supposed to last through today. I am concerned for some of the flowers that are already up about 4" in the case of the Bleeding Hearts. We already raked the covering of leaves off, so they have no protection. The crocuses in the other bed simply did not open My husband , who has been doing all of the grocery shopping since the shut down, said the store shelves are beginning to look empty. Since many of the big meat processers are closed because all of their workers are sick, the meat supply is fast disappearing. Since he was a packaging chemist he realizes that there is no one to package the meat that is sold in stores because most of it has gone to the restaurants that are now closed. Starting up that process will take some time and lots of skilled workers who are probably also sick! Oh yes, the packaging machines have probably also gone to China! No worry here as we have Amish neighbors who raise chickens, and while I have never eaten goat, I may learn to do so. I could dress a chicken, though, as I helped my mother catch, kill and dress many chickens as a child.
4/17/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today is warmer at 32 degrees, but overcast. The big snow storm heading this way last PM did not reach this far north. Good thing; we do not need any more snow in April.
4/18/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today started out sunny with a temp of 32 degrees under a beautiful blue sky.
4/19/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today is the warmest so far starting out at 44 degrees, In fact that temp is higher than the high temps we had in several days this past week! The sky is blue and the sun is shining. A good day to get outside and do some much needed yard work. We have a new DR chipper so hubby is trying to eliminate the many piles of brush we have from cutting down four or five huge trees. At the rate he is going it will take all summer. The problem is no burning permits until this virus thing is over.
4/21/2020 7:00 AM M 0.0 M M M Today is bright and sunny, but cold at just 32 degrees. It is expected to only get into the 40'e today due to a cold front that came through in late afternoon. The rest of this week is predicted to be cold with a chance of showers every day. Yesterday did turn out to be quite warm, I don't know the tenp, but I was comfortable without a jacket for the first time in quite a while. A brief shower came through around 4PM with just a few sprinkles, then later ii did rain a little, probably a few hundredth. We really could use some rain due to the very low humidity and gusty winds of the fast two days. The grass and flowers could use a good drink!

4/23/2020 7:00 AM 0.25 0.0 M M M A late afternoon storm popped up producing some much needed rain. We did not have any hail as was reported in Iowa nor did we get any thunder and lightning. The rain made everything start to green up, the flowers perked up and some blood roots appeared in the yard. We could use some more rain, but with the water table so high, there would be more flooding if we get too much too fast. The AM temperature was a warmer 39 degrees.
4/24/2020 7:00 AM 0.08 0.0 M M M A very dark and gloomy day with a few rain drops in the air. The AM temp. was a chilly 39 degrees. I wish it would just rain enough to be of some good and get it over with instead of spending a week doling out a few hundredths here and there over the entire week!
4/25/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M The sun did not show itself until late afternoon and it remained cold, in the low 50's. Today the sun is shining in a clear blue sky and the temp was a warmer 41b degrees, It is not inspected to warm up much today although it is supposed to remain sunny. Tomorrow is predicted to be the best day of this weekend.

4/27/2020 7:00 AM 0.34 0.0 M M M Yesterday was the nicest day yet this spring. Today is overcast, but not too cold with a temp of 50 degrees. Showers are predicted for the next couple of days, even thunder storms as well.
4/28/2020 7:00 AM T 0.0 M M M
4/29/2020 7:00 AM 0.05 M M M M It is a bit colder today perhaps because there is a nasty wind gusting again. This year seems to be more windy most of the time than in the past. Not a nice day to be outside!
4/30/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Yesterday was an absolutely horrible day with overcast skies , unseasonably cold temps in the low 40's, and a strong, busty north wind blowing. Even the dogs did not want to be outside very long! Today appears to be somewhat better, still cold at 44 degrees, but at least the sun is shining in a clear blue sky, and the win d is not quite as strong. With the sunshine, provided it stay out most of the day, should produce warmer temps. The wild flowers are absolutely beautiful and abundant, and my Trillium in the wild flower garden has expanded to eight plants with buds on them now that won't come out if the temps do not warm up at least a little and Ivory does not choose to run through them. She is pretty obedient and wants to please, so hopefully she will stay out of there!
5/1/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today dawned sunny and clear, but by 9:00 it had already begun to cloud over. It still had not warmed up yet starting out with a temp of 41 degrees. Yesterday did become somewhat warmer, the Madison news said Boscobel reached u70, but with a very cold north wind blowing, it did not reel very warm at all.
5/2/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Much warmer today at 64 degrees, but still windy from the NW. It started out sunny, but soon the clouds rolled in and now, at 9AM it is mostly cloudy. Tings are quite dry around here since the April rainfall was below normal and it has remained windy for much or that time. I hope we are not in for a drought like we had back in the 70's. when the ground was so hard and the soil just powder. We planted many pine tree, most of which died because we were not able to water them.

5/4/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Winter is beck!! After a beautiful weekend with mostly sunny skies and temps into the 70's, today started out with a temp of just 42 degrees and windy again. Some frost was predicted for our northern counties. That really is not that unusual for Wisconsin. I can remember the first year we moved to Milwaukee, I wore a winter coat to the bus stop in early June. I even got my picture in the Milw. Journal boarding the new Freeway Flyer Bus at Mayfair Mall. How times have changed! I have not ridden a bus in many years!
5/5/2020 7:00 AM 0.04 0.0 M M M Today is gloomy and overcast with a little rain falling at 0600. It has picked up a bit now so maybe we will get enough rain to help end the drought we seem to be experiencing now. Actually there is plenty of moisture in the soil from all the previous rains, but the surface is very dry. This is always our worst fire season before everything greens up. No fire permits are being issued until conditions improve. This week is supposed to remain cool and overcast which should help. I heard the word "snow" in the forecast on TV. Probably could happen because May can be cold and snowy. I remember, I think it was two years ago, that all of the tree buds froze and we had no hickory or wall nuts that year. The orchards also lost a lot of their crop because of the freeze.
5/6/2020 7:00 AM 0.09 0.0 M M M Today is another cool one with a temp of 39 degrees. Yesterday remained overcast with a few sprinkles during the AM. It also remained cool and windy since there was no sun until later afternoon. Today is predicted to get a bit warmer, perhaps 60 degrees, The real cold is supposed to show up on Friday bight and Saturday with s hard freeze predicted. Glad I did not buy or pout out any bedding plants yet! I sort of go by the end of May for the last frost.
5/7/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today looks as if it is going to be a nice one. The sun is shining in a clear blue sky and the AM temp was 39 degrees. Yesterday remained nice until about noon, then the clouds rolled in, but no rain, and the skies remained overcast for the rest of the day.
5/8/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Winter is back with a vengeance! The AM temp was a cold 36 degrees, but with a gusting north wind it felt much solder. It is sunny and if one is not outside appears to be a beautiful day with a clear blue sky and plenty of sunshine, but that wind makes being outside just miserable. Apparently we can expect this, only worse, for the next three or more days. Some snow could appear on Sunday.
5/9/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M There was no white frost on the ground this AM, but the temp a little before 7AM was a frosty 29 degrees. Today felt warmer than yesterday because there was no strong NW wind gusting. The sky is clear blue, and the sun is shining. It will probably warm up into maybe the low 60's today. No rain again. There was high fire danger again yesterday.
5/10/2020 7:00 AM T 0.0 M M M An overcast and dreary day with a light rain falling. The good part is the temp which is a warm 44 degrees at 7 AM. B\None of out plants suffered frost bite yesterday, but they were already hardened because they are native plants, used to the cold since they have been outdoors their entire life!
5/11/2020 7:00 AM 0.21 0.0 M M M Today is bright and sunny with a 7AM temp of 36 degrees. I saw on the news that Madison had snow yesterday AM. I forgot to cover my Trillium last night, but they took no hurt. None of the plants showed any signs of frost. They say that by Thursday, temps should be back to normal for almost mid May. It did rain much of the morning, but again not enough to cut down on the fire danger.
5/12/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today is bright and sunny, but quite cold at 33 degrees. I did remember to cover my trillium, but being natural plants they would not have frozen anyway. All of the other plants like the bleeding hearts survived just fine with absolutely no ill effects from the cold. Hard to believe that the normal temps for this time of year should be into the 70's now. I think I heard we may see 80 by the end of the week end.
5/13/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today began a little warmer at 40 degrees with a cloudless blue sky that began to cloud over shortly. By 9AM it was almost completely overcast, then it began to clear off again. We are anticipating rain this evening and into tomorrow. We can use the rain since we have not had much at all in the month of May and were below normal for April. It seems we are either drowning or too dry. It is important that we get rain soon after the crops are planted. Some thunder storms are predicted.
5/14/2020 7:00 AM 0.22 0.0 M M M It finally rained, but no where enough to be of much help for the crops, but will keep the fire danger down. Today is warmer than it has been all week and rainy. At least this "lock down" is going to end in a few days! We don't go out much anyway, but the idea that our government can lock us up for weeks is scary. ,
5/15/2020 7:00 AM 0.09 0.0 M M M Today is more seasonable with a temp of 54 degrees and what appears to be a clear sky so far. We did get some rain in late evening. It was still raining at 10 PM, but must have stopped shortly after that judging from the amount of water in the gauge. It can't seem to rain enough to be of mush good to the crops. The rest of the week is supposed to be warmer and it is supposed to last into next week as well. Maybe spring has finally arrived!
5/16/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today will be mostly sunny and warm with a starting temp of 53 degrees. Rain predicted for overnight.
5/17/2020 7:00 AM 0.19 0.0 M M M The one inch or more of rain predicted for overnight did not materialize. I hope it is not all we are going to get out of this batch of storms. Today's temp is 52 degrees which is probably normal for May, but it feel very muggy from all the humidity in the air. Glad I don't have a picnic planned for today!
5/18/2020 7:00 AM 0.60 0.0 M M M It did manage to rain most of the day yesterday, but most of the time it was just a drizzle producing a little over 1/2"of water in the gauge.. Today is overcast, but it isn't raining. The AM temp was again in the low 50's. Today looks to be a repeat of yesterday, cool and overcast.
5/19/2020 7:00 AM 0.03 0.0 M M M Another gloomy, overcast and damp day with a temp of 52 degrees.
5/21/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M After a glorious day yesterday, today is back to the same old overcast, cool, and otherwise miserable weather. The AM temp was a cool 54 degrees and it probably won't warm up much without the sunshine. The first half of May was cold with most days having below normal temps. So far in the second half it hasn't been much better. Hard to believe this weekend is Memorial Day already! We really haven't had much "spring" weather so far. This reminds me of the over thirty years I lived in Milwaukee, by the way the temp there yesterday was a cold 47 degrees due to the east wind blowing off of Lake Michigan which is still pretty cold!.
5/22/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Another cloudy, overcast day with a temp of 56 degrees. Yesterday remained cloudy and cool with PM temps in the low 60's.
5/23/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today is mostly overcast with a temp of 63 degrees at 8:30 AM. There is a big storm headed this way that is supposed to bring much needed rain. It will probably be like all the others that were hipped and never produced a drop of rain.
5/24/2020 7:00 AM 0.54 0.0 M M M Finally we got some much needed rain yesterday afternoon. There were two bouts of showers, the first was around 3:30PM that yielded the most rain, and the other was later around 5PM or so. The sky was not really threatening so I went outside to put the license tags on the truck. When I was just finishing up the paper work this very loud clap of thunder startled me. The later storm did have some severe weather near here, and a tornado touched down north of Beloit in Rock Co. Since I do not watch the local news at 10 PM I never heard how much damage was done. There were two tornadoes in the Lancaster area also; the first severe weather of the spring season!
5/25/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today is partly cloudy, a bit muggy with a temp of 67 degrees. It never became sunny yesterday and the temps climbed into the 8u0's for the first time this season. Hard to believe this is the official start of summer! After being confined to home for about two months, it seems strange to e out now. We have been to La Crosse to Home depot for water softener salt and to Platteville to pay respects to my departed parents who rest in Greenwood Cemetery in the heart of the UWP campus. My son who graduated from there in 1986 used to say he could look our of his dorm room in Hugunin Hall (she was my freshman English Prof.) and see his grandfather's grave.
5/26/2020 7:00 AM 0.05 M M M M All of the showers missed us except for the one after 7 PM. There was rolling thunder, but not mush rain. The day got quite warm, according to the TV weather it was 86 degrees in Boscobel. They have very different weather than we have here due to the fact that they are located in the Wisc. river bottom. Today is sunny so far and warm again with a temp of 68 degrees.
5/27/2020 7:00 AM 0.02 M M M M Today is warm and humid with a temp of 68 degrees at 6AM. We had a few sprinkles in later morning and again in the afternoon but none contributed much to the rain gauge. Today is supposed to be more of the same with showers to keep the humidity high. We have turned on the air to get rid of the steamy air in the house, and the humidifier in the basement runs full out and has to be emptied several times a day since it is not over a drain. It appears that the rest of the week and next will be cooler and drier.
5/28/2020 7:00 AM 0.29 M M M M It is raining, not much just a steady drizzle. The ground is actually wet so it must have been raining for a while. Today is supposed to be the end of the rainy, cloudy, miserable weather. A cold front is expected to arrive by tomorrow dropping temps into the 60's for Friday, then some sunshine with temps in the 70's. The ground is ready for planting, now to get it done. The grass around here is almost out of control. I starred mowing, then the black clouds and the sound of thunder sent my back into the house.
5/29/2020 7:00 AM 0.46 0.0 M M M At last the cold front appeared and the clouds and rain are gone! Today is beautiful with a cloudless blue sky and plenty of sunshine. The AM temp was a cool 52 degrees on the way to the 60'c today. I prefer this to the 60's over the 90's that I remember when we were living in an upstairs apartment in an old house in Platteville. The first week in June was a solid week of above 90 degree temps. Of course we were poor, two kids just married 6 mopnths with one in school, so buying an sir conditioner was out of the question. We finally broke down and sold Lee's 1959 Mercury for some extra cash.

5/31/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today is another chilly one with a temp of 46 degrees. Some frost was predicted for overnight in our northern counties. During the last cold snap our neighbor said her strawberry blossoms froze. I have not heard how the orchards did. Our apple tree had not been far enough to freeze the tiny buds. Some of my early flowers did not bloom, I presume due to the cold and snow that happened after they were budding. We have not had an early spring since 2012, and probably won't have one ever again. When we first bought this place in the early 1970's, there was always snow on the ground at Thanksgiving; now we are lucky to have snow for Christmas!
6/1/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M It was just starting to sprinkle when I went out to feed the birds before 7 AM. It was quite cool again with a temp of 56 degrees. Yesterday remained cool with sunshine all day and a brisk wind. It was a good day to mow the rest of my grass and finish some of the yard work.
6/2/2020 7:00 AM 0.13 M M M M The sun is shining again today, but this will be the last nice day for a while as a heat wave is coming, along with perhaps severe storms tonight. The temps today ate predicted to reach 90 degrees with a 100 degree or higher heat index. The AM temp was 68 degrees, and although the humidity is quite high, with a nice breeze it did not feel oppressive at all. That will probably change by noon.
6/3/2020 7:00 AM 1.26 M M M M We had quite a storm last PM with wind, rain and thunder and some intense lightning. There are branches down all over, but no damage to property here. This was the most rain we have had all season, and it was badly needed here. Most of the corn looks like it has been planted and hay making is in progress now.
6/4/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M A cold front came through overnight dropping the temps that were in the low 80's down to 62 degrees at 7:20 this AM. Today is shaping up to be a pleasant one. Lots of storm debris to pick up from Tues. night's high winds. Hope today stays sunny and not too warm.
6/5/2020 7:00 AM 0.32 M M M M Today began gloomy and overcast, but now the sun is starting to peek through the clouds. Yesterday was a very nice day, although the temp did get into the mid 80's, but with low humidity it did not feel oppressive. The rain did not appear until almost 9PM. There was some thunder and quite a lot of lightning. The dogs were wet then they came in after their bedtime walk.
6/6/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M today started out mostly cloudy, but now at almost 9AM it is clearing off. This is supposed to be a nice day with sunshine and low humidity.
6/7/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today is cooler at 58 degrees with a gusting north wind blowing. Not a good day for a pool party. It is starting to cloud over now making it feel even cooler. This has been a strange spring so far. One day it is hot, and the next cold enough for a jacket.
6/8/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today feels like it will be a hot one? The humidity also feels much higher than it has been. There is a clear blue sky with plenty of sunshine.
6/9/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M yesterday remained sunny and hot. We did not reach the 90 degree mark, but came very close at 8i9 degrees. Today started out in the high 60's and will get warmer as the day progresses. The storms will arrive later today bringing some more rain, which we can always use.
6/10/2020 7:00 AM 1.26 M M M M It did rain most of the day yesterday, at times it was a down pour, but no hail or thunderstorms. This whole area was under a flood watch. Although it seems dry, the ground was not. I hope there is not flooding, but with this much rain there probably is.
6/11/2020 7:00 AM 0.64 M M M M It rained most of the day yesterday, no severe storms or hail. It finally did clear off around 5PM. Today dawned with a clear blue sky, plenty of sunshine and lower humidity. A good day to get some outside work accomplished.
6/12/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today will be a fine day starting with a temp of 52 degrees, a bright blue sky, and lower humidity.
6/13/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M The cold weather has returned on a date that is a week short of summer on the calendar. The AM temp was a chilly 52 degrees with a strong east wind gusting. It s supposed to remain nice through the week end. Today would not be a good one for a pool party or swimming in a lake. There is a big debate around here over whether or not to open the swimming pool for the summer. I say go for it, since the summer rec program is cancelled, the kids need something to keep them busy. I certainly hope they do open the schools in Sept, but even that is somewhat in question. I certainly would not want to be a teacher now with all this uncertainty.

6/19/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Things are starting to get a bit dry again around here. We have had no rain for over a week and the humidity had been very low, like in the 40'x which is unusual for here in June. We are expecting storms for the week end and into next week. Yesterday was quite warm, I think in the high 80's. Tomorrow is supposed to be hot, then a cool off with rain to follow.
6/20/2020 7:00 AM 0.20 M M M M Our hopes for some meaningful rain fell way short of the amount needed. It just rains enough to keep the humidity up, but not much more. We just had a brief shower now at 11:30 AM.
6/21/2020 7:00 AM 0.95 M M M M We finally did get some rain. There were two storms in late afternoon that resulted in downpours for a short period of time, There probably was flooding judging from what I saw around here. The runoff from the neighbor's corn field was pretty impressive. He lot a lot of top soil. The water was very very muddy and running swiftly down the ditch which has more than doubled in size in the past couple of years. So sad that the last owner removed the grassy areas in order to get more crop land. They were there for a reason!
6/22/2020 7:00 AM 0.75 M M M M We got more rain again yesterday and overnight. This should really help with the dry conditions. The corn is growing at a fast pace and so are the weeds in the garden.
6/23/2020 7:00 AM 0.32 M M M M Yesterday was a dark, dreary, and sometimes rainy day. It rained most of the day, although not downpours like the previous days, just a steady off and on drizzle. Today began sunny, but by now, at 8:30 AM it has begun to cloud over.
6/24/2020 7:00 AM 0.01 M M M M
6/25/2020 7:00 AM 0.02 M M M M This is starting out to be a fine day with clear blue skies, low humidity, and bright sunshine. It is cool as well with a temp of 63 degrees now. Yesterday was mostly sunny until mid afternoon when it began to cloud over and we did have a brief rain shower later into the evening. Bad storms are predicted for tomorrow.
6/26/2020 7:00 AM 0.12 M M M M It began to rain around 4AM and there were a few drops in the air at 6 AM. It really did not begin to rain hard until after 7 AM. We can use the moisture as the garden, what is left of it after the moles, rabbits and deer hare had their fill. We have one hill of vines, the zucchini which is the least liked. One plant would be more than enough! I intended to plant some more cucumbers but never got around to it Today it is raining so will not get it done today either.

6/28/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Yesterday was a perfect summer day with clear skies and sunshine. Today not so much as it is hazy and a bit on the humid side. The AM temp was 64 degrees, but it has become much warmer now. There is a breeze blowing which makes being outside a little more pleasant. There are storms predicted for tonight.
6/29/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M No rain yesterday and today is very warm (73 at 7AM) and humid. Not a good day for outdoor work like mowing the grass which has gotten very long.

7/1/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today is going to be a hot one! It is already 75 degrees and very humid. It is supposed to remain like this through the holiday week end. Most places around here have cancelled their fire works and other celebrations because of Covid-19. Gays Mills only had a few events, and I can't understand how watching fire works from hour car parked in the fair grounds would spread the virus, but they will do whatever they are told by the powers that be regardless of the risks involved.
7/2/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Another warm day with a temp of 68 degrees at 6:30 AM. The TV weather said it was 94 degrees in Boscobel yesterday PM. They are always warmer than here because they are down in the WI River bottom. There was a nice breeze blowing, so it did not feel so hot here.
7/4/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today is going to be an other hot one starting out with a temp of 70 degrees. There is a nice breeze blowing but it is hot in the sun. We have not plans for today; it just seems like any other day. Sad there is no fireworks anywhere around here. Have to settle for those on TV which will be spectacular. bit not the same as being there in person.
7/5/2020 7:00 AM 0.14 M M M M It did rain a brief shower just after 6AM today, but the most rain fell yesterday in early afternoon. Of course this is not enough to water the plants, but it leaves things fresh and green. It is a bit cooler because of the rain, but the humidity still lingers. The temp at 8:4 this A< was 72 degrees under mostly sunny skies. our poor dog could not figure out where all of the noise was coming from last PM with much of the neighborhood shooting off fireworks. He was still barking past 10 PM. He is not afraid of loud noises. Our first pug was scared out of her wits with thunder and fireworks. Back then you could not buy a "thunder shirt" which is available in many places now.
7/7/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Yesterday's heat and especially the humidity was oppressive. I am not a fan of hot weather, but this was just terrible! I walked Ivory up in the field around 10 AM, and as long as we stayed in the shade it wasn't too bad. She is a cold weather dog who loves to play in the snow and sticks her little sharp nose into a snow bank and then throw the snow up into the air. She also likes to roll in it. Pugs do not like snow very much and have no nose to stick into it. No, I am not wishing for winter just yet, but over a week of this awful heat is enough to make one wish for cooler weather.
7/8/2020 7:00 AM 0.20 M M M M Yesterday was another very hot and humid one, and today is supposed to be even worse with a heat index of 103! A good day to stay indoors with the AC. I will walk Ivory as soon as I finish here. If we say in the shade of the pine wind break on the east side of the field, it is actually rather pleasant. She just bounces along, but always knows where I am. When she gets bored, she heads for the house and sits in front of the door waiting to be let in.
7/10/2020 7:00 AM 3.03 M M M M WE had a terrible thunder storm yesterday PM starting around 2:30 PM. We had some loud thunder and lightning with gusty winds and copious amounts of rain. There doesn't appear to be a lot of wind damage here, but the road suffered greatly from the pounding rain. We made the mistake of going out in this storm, just a few miles. The rain was falling in sheets so hard we could hardly see the road and the wind gusts were fierce. especially in open places. The water was running everywhere, although we did not have water in the basement. I have not bit been out this AM, so have no idea of the other damage that could have been done.
7/11/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Yesterday was a nice day with sunshine and lower humidity than the previous 3 days that were brutal! Today we are back to thunder storms and more rain. I began to rain shortly after 7 AM and is still raining now at 930. There was a weather alert for severe thunder storms for 3 counties in NW Iowa just across the river.
7/12/2020 7:00 AM 0.14 M M M M There were two brief rain storms yesterday. It was raining when I got up at 0600 and the second one was shortly after 7PM. The rest of the day remained dry with some sunshine and a more seasonable temp. Today is bright and sunny with a cooler temp and lower humidity. It appears it is going to be a nice day to be outdoors fro a change.
7/13/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M
7/14/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M No rain yesterday or overnight. Today is mostly overcast with showers predicted for this AM and later on this evening. The weather on TV said this has been a very wet July, and will be wet and very hot the next two weeks. That is not good news because I don't like very hot weather. It was quite dark at 6AM when I got up. I just thought the days are getting shorter, but it was mostly cloudy. Now the sun is trying to appear and there is a gently breeze, but I can feel the humidity has increased.
7/15/2020 7:00 AM 1.86 M M M M Today is cooler with a comfortable temp of 67 degrees after a night of rain. More rain expected over the next few days, then another heat wave.
7/16/2020 7:00 AM 0.19 M M M M Yesterday remained cloudy and dreary a;;; day. We did get a shower in the evening.
7/17/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Yesterday started out very foggy, but later it cleared off, the sun shown. and with low humidity it ended up being a beautiful summer day. Today started out cooler, it is 68 degrees now at 8:30 AM, but I can already feel the humidity beginning to rise. The next three day are supposed to be beastly with a heat index of over 100 degrees with humidity in the 70's. It will be a good tome to stay indoors with the AC and catch up on some of my neglected house work. Yesterday we graded the driveway with our trusty DR Grader pulled behind the Polaris Ranger. The road was washed the worst we have seen it in many years. The past three rain storms, one dumped over 3" in about an hour, really caused much damage. The rain just came down in sheets. I have never seen anything like that in all the years we have lived here(going on 22).
7/18/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M No rain yesterday or overnight. The heat this AM was oppressive because of the high humidity.
7/19/2020 7:00 AM 0.07 M M M M T he big bad storm predicted for us later yesterday did not materialize. AS OF 10pm when we retired for the night there was no sign of bad weather. It must have rained a bit in the night, period. Now I have to go out and water my potted plants. I see I got recognized for submitting over 4000 reports in my more than 13 years as a CoCoRaHS volunteer. I joined back in 2007 and have been reporting ever since. As long as I am able (I was 80 yrs. old last month) and my husband is 81 1/2). As long as we are capable of looking after the 60+ acres we live on here in the beautiful driftless region of SW Wisconsin, I will continue to report precipitation. I might add my husband is also a weather spotter for NWS in La Crosse which he has been doing for many years. We moved here from Milwaukee in 1998, so I presume he has been a spotter since we moved here. We are both graduates of good old PU what is now STEM college (University of Wisconsin at Platteville) and I am also a native daughter having grown up on a dairy farm 5 miles west of the city.)
7/20/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M No rain overnight. Today will be a beautiful one with bright sunshine in a cloudless blue sky.
7/21/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today is cloudy and cool with a temp of 67 degrees. It is rather pleasant out because there is quite a nice breeze blowing.
7/22/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M No rain again for several days. Things are starting to get a little dry again. All of the storms have followed the usual pattern of going north oar staying to our south. Yet this is closing in on being one of the wettest Julys on record in WI.
7/23/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today began quite cool for late July at 61 degrees under an overcast sky. More oppressive heat is supposed to return for the week end. I can hardly wait!
7/24/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today began with mostly sunny skies and a temp of 63 degrees, It is still pleasant because there is a wing blowing from the south. The humidity is starting to rise and if the sun stays out it could become quite hot as the day progresses.
7/25/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today is sunny and warm on the way to the mid 90's again. This is turning out to be quite a warm and wet summer. The TV weather says we have about double the amount of rain as is normal for July. Their viewing area must include some of those areas around Eau Clair that have gotten a lot more storms than we have here in the south. We have about a week of rain and gloom, then a week or sunshine and that repeats over again. Sometimes that rain isn't much, just enough to keep the humidity high and at uncomfortable levels.
7/26/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M yesterday felt like the hottest one yet even tho the temp was not that bad, it was the humidity at 73 that did not allow for any evaporation. Today does not seem quite as bad since there is a wind blowing that stirs up the air. Since one of our AC units died last PM this is not going to be a good night. I suppose we could sleep on one of the four sofas in the big room (Dining room and living room/TV room) still has a functioning AC. How ironic it is one our younger son gave us when he moved to a house with central air some 18 or so years ago. That is when appliances were made here in the USA, and they lasted much longer than the ones made in Asia.
7/27/2020 7:00 AM 0.06 M M M M A brief storm with lots of thunder passed over in early afternoon dropping only a few hundredth of an in ch of rain. After all the hype that we were going to have severe weather, etc., we got latterly nothing in the rain department when we could really use some moisture as the corn is maturing. Our garden, what the rabbit, deer (little fawn) and mole did not already eat, would be very dry if we did not water every day.
7/28/2020 7:00 AM T M M M M Somewhat cooler today with less humidity. We had a brief sprinkle yesterday, but not enough to be of any help to the crops or gardens, in fact not enough to measure.
7/29/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M It finally cooled off a little, now that we have our new LG 18000BTU air conditional up and running. Thanks to our Amish neighbor John and twin brother Jacob who carried the old unit down the steep steps and the new one up without breaking a sweat, and they are not big men. Very slim from all the hard work, and not very tall either. In return they get free transportation all over Crawford Co. in our truck which can haul lots of things they need like hay bales, goat feed, diesel fuel, etc. and Mrs. goes to the Amish store for large sacks of flour, sugar and other supplies. When one has a large family, John had 9 children and Jacob has 11 a small sack of anything would not last very long. Jacob said their oldest son is 19 and no longer lives at home.
7/30/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Another beautiful day with cloudless blue skies, bright sunshine, and lower humidity. We really could use a good rain as things are getting quite dry around here.
7/31/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Another rather pleasant day with mostly sunshine in a partially cloudy sky. No rain overnight and none in sight for the near future. The fire danger here is moderate.
8/1/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today is somewhat cooler with a temp of just 61 degrees under a mostly clear sky. Some clouds have moved in as has been the case the past few days.
8/2/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M
8/3/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today is a preview of what is to come in the next two months. It was just 55 degrees today with bright sunshine in an October blue sky. A relief from the high humidity and temps we experienced over the past week. This was more typical of August than July weather here. This July was one of the wettest on record, although here we missed most of the rain of the past two weeks. Things are really dry around here and I fear for the crops if it does not rain soon!! We have been watering the garden ( what little we have after the moles and the deer and the rabbit had their fill) early in the season. My Amish neighbor was complaining that the deer ate her beans. We have just six plants that were loaded with blossoms and now had enough beans for us for supper last night. The vines, what few remained and some volunteers from last year, have covered the entire plot. The problem being we do not know what variety they are since we had heavy rains that washed out some of the seeds.
8/6/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M It's still cool today at just 58 degrees under mostly overcast skies. Yesterday clouded over before 9 AM and remained mostly cloudy all day. It did clear off partially in early afternoon, but became mostly cloudy for the remainder of the day. This would not have been a good week to go camping or swimming!!We will be wishing for some relief when the heat and humidity return. We got our first power bill after using two big air conditioners for most of the billing period, and the dehumidifier we were emptying multiple times a day. It jumped $75.00 from the month before which was pretty much an average summer bill. I remember as a kid growing up on e farm in SW WI in the 40's & 50"s, we used to sleep on the porch when it was hot, and it was! I even spent a night in the yard on the hammock. We really did not even have home freezers back then, just the little box on the top of the refrig. Everyone rented a locker at the locker plant to keep the frozen corn, beans, even purchased peaches for the winter. The rest of the veggies like carrots, onions, and potatoes were either in the root cellar stored in sand or canned.
8/7/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M
8/9/2020 7:00 AM 0.02 M M M M It did rain ever so little in the night, but certainly not enough to be helpful with our drought! Today is overcast, quite warm and humid with a storm Approaching from the west and more to follow. NWS says we will get rain sometime after 11 AM. Believe it when you see it. There could be severe storms, some with hail and damaging winds. We do not want hail with all of the corn and apples almost ready to harvest. They had a bad year last year because of the late frost.
8/10/2020 7:00 AM 0.02 M M M M No or very little rain fell here while up north, they had downpours, hail, and some flooding all of which they did not need. Today started out mostly cloudy, then the sun came out for a brief time, now it is back to clouds. The humidity is oppressive, yet the temp is not that hot at 75 degrees.
8/11/2020 7:00 AM 0.12 M M M M There were severe storms both to our south and up north, but nothing here. WE had hopes of getting some useful rain, but that did not happen. The places that always get the rain did not disappoint. I did not look at the weather repots this AM, but what I heard on the 6PM Madison news was enough. Madison apparently got quite a downpour again, were were reposts of a tornado to out south. and lots of rain in the northern tier of counties around Eau Claire.
8/14/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today is a bit warmer starting at 63 degrees under a clear blue sky with bright sunshine. No rain in sight until perhaps Saturday. The ground around here is powder dry and the grass is beginning to turn brown. We do need a good rain, badly!!
8/15/2020 7:00 AM 0.18 M M M M It did rain a bit overnight, but not nearly enough. Just enough to settle the dust, barely. Today is overcast and a slight drizzle falls once in a while. Not a good day for outdoor activities. I had planned to mow some grass around the house, but first I have to pick up another bucket full of apples that are falling from the old tree out there. This crew of deer don't seem to be interested in eating them! Yesterday I saw the twin fawns and the single fawn all at the same time. Oh, yes, I also saw the little buck who snorted at me, or maybe it was at Ivory who did not seem interested in chasing deer just then.
8/17/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Yesterday was a beautiful late summer day with blue skies, low humidity, a gentle breeze and sunshine all day. Today began cool a 61 degrees and expected to stay cooler the rest if the week. It certainly feels like fall and with our mini draught, it looks like fall too.
8/18/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M
8/19/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Fall is definitely in the air this AM with bright blue skies, bright sunshine, and a temp of just 54 degrees, Yesterday was nice also but it did warm up quite a bit and the humidity seemed to be higher. Things are so dry around here that is it hard to understand where the humidity is coming from, but I heard that the crops give off a lot of moisture. I keep seeing pictures on the news of fields in Iowa where the corn is just flat and all mangled. I have never seen such damage from a storm before. My son, who lives in Ames, said they were without power for a week, and he was grateful for his little trailer that has a solar system with enough power to run refrigeration and a freezer. Be said they had winds of up to 110 mph. There were two tornadoes confirmed in Grant CO. here in Wisconsin. I guess we were lucky to escape without a storm, period.
8/20/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today is going to be a carbon copy of the previous ones with a starting temp of 59 degrees.
8/21/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today is not bright and sunny, rather overcast and quite cool. No rain in the forecast in the near future, then it is very iffy. So sad to see the beautiful green we have had all summer turn an ugly brown.
8/22/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today is overcast and a bit muggy, although they say the humidity is in the 50's. The temp now at 9:20 AM us 64 degrees, I think the cold front that was predicted to arrive, has come. We have no radar at La Cross until the end of the month due to a much needed up grade. Yesterday they removed that huge dome from the base with a crane.

8/24/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today is mostly cloudy with a temp of 65 degrees. There is a little more humidity also.
8/25/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M We may have gotten 3 drops of rain overnight. Our drought level had raised to D1 for the first tine since 2018. There were storms in the same area to our north that have more than enough rain. We went to Viroqua for cat food, and the dryness is more obvious than it is here. There are more browning lawns and corn that looks a bit droopy and turning brown up to the ears in some places. I hope this does not continue for much longer because the farmers have suffered enough around here!!
8/26/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today is mostly clear and very hot and muggy. Temps in the 90's again today. It is very dry around here. The rain promised for the week end did not arrive here. Perhaps with the two hurricanes expected on the gulf coast will bring some moisture up the Mississippi valley.
8/27/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Toda is a carbon copy of the past several; hot, humid and sunny. We really could use some much needed rain in this area. The corn fields are starting to show stress in the form of yellowing color and the bottom half is turning brown.
8/28/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M
8/29/2020 7:00 AM 0.38 M M M M We finally got some much needed rain yesterday. Not nearly enough considering the areas in the middle of the state had some places that got 10" over the period of two days. There was some flooding there. I guess we should be grateful there was not sny have any severe weather. Hard to believe that this small amount of rain caused the road to wash in steep places. Also the sat TV was out for about an hour. It did not appear that the rain came down that hard! We could use a lot more around here!
8/30/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M looks like another beautiful day in late summer. It is a bit cool with a temp of 56 degrees. It started out very cool yesterday (51) degrees, but warmed up into the 79's by afternoon.
8/31/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today is overcast with a temp of 59 degrees. Some rain is predicted for today. The radar is up and running at NWS La Crosse so we can see the storms as they arrive.
9/1/2020 7:00 AM 0.79 M M M M We had our first real rain in quite some time yesterday. It came two batches and lasted probably two hours of continuous rain. There was some thunder and lightning, but nothing severe. I have not been out to see if the corn looks better, but I'm guessing it does. This morning was the coldest so far this season at just 49 degrees. It certainly feels like fall, I hears a prediction for a terrible winter with cold and lots of snow. The birds have mostly left with the exception of the hummers and a few female grosbeaks. Even the robins are gone.
9/2/2020 7:00 AM 0.03 M M M M It was raining at 9PM and there was a brief shower in early afternoon, otherwise the remainder of the day was sunny and cool. Today is sunny with a temp starting at 59 degrees. No rain expected today with warmer temps.
9/3/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today is mostly sunny with a temp of 65 degrees. It is beginning to feel a lot like fall. The leaves are starting to fall, nuts are appearing on the road from the hickory trees, and the amount of day light is declining rapidly. They say this will be cold and snowy winter, and I believe it. Most of the birds have already flown south, even the robins who usually stay a little later. I don't look forward to winter this year more than I ever have. Probably because living here can be a real challenge with tons of snow and bitter cold. As much as I love the country, and as someone who had lived in a big city most of her adult life. I do not want to leave here even tho I know it would be wise to do so. Time will tell. Then it will be too late!
9/4/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today is cool at 59 degrees. No precip, although we have been moved up a notch in the drought monitor. The corn has suffered. Many fields are brown and yellow up past the ears. The farmers do need a good crop this year. We visited three of the Gays Mills orchards for apples ant other goodies. The apple crop looks good in spiite of the later frost this May.

9/6/2020 7:00 AM 0.82 M M M M We finally got some more needed rainfall overnight. There was even a thunder storm around 8 AM. It was still raining at 6:30 when I took the dogs out. Today was wet, warm, and windy. I couldn't tell if it was actually raining or just blowing off of the trees. It did continue to rain until 9AM or a little later. We drove down to Platteville yesterday to get pain and cat food. They were harvesting corn like crazy. Most of the corn was all yellow and brown from lack of moisture. I have never seen so much dust kicked up in the fields by the machines, etc. We saw truck load after truck load of chopped corn being hauled. There are several big CFAO's near Lancaster that must house thousands of head of dairy cattle that eat a lot of silage. We just have a big pig operation in Crawford Co. that wants to expand. Much controversy about that around here! Having experienced the odor from a small hog operation, I can't imagine what several thousand feeder pigs would produce!! People are worried about the run-off from such an operation getting into the Kickapoo River.

9/8/2020 7:00 AM 0.02 M M M M There were snow flakes in the air this AM a little past 6 this morning. At first I did not realize what I was seeing, but then it happened again and this time it was definitely snow flakes. The T weather said there could be some snow with this cold front that came down from Canada last PM. The temp this morning was 50 degrees with a gusty NE wind blowing. I am not ready for this in early September!
9/9/2020 7:30 AM 1.32 M M M M We finally got some mush needed rain. Now it is raining for the second day in a row, and very chilly at 47 degrees. Frost is predicted for the northern counties tonight. It seems like the predictions for a cold and snowy sinter may come true.
9/10/2020 8:30 AM 0.65 M M M M Today is the third day of overcast, rainy, dark, cold, and damp days. Today's temp was in the 40's again at just 47 degrees. Makes one yearn for the warm and sunny days of August which will most certainly return soon. It is nice to see green grass rather than the brown that was starting to replace it. Of course if this trend continues we may see snow in October!
9/11/2020 7:00 AM 0.10 M M M M It drizzled all day yesterday and only produced one tenth of an inch of rain. Today is overcast, but it is not raining. It felt warmer today, but the temp is still in the low 50's at 52 degrees not at 9:20, It would be nice if the sun cam out today to dry things out a bit. Trying to start fires with wet wood is no fun. We did get both wood stoves plus the chimneys cleaned out, new fire brick installed, and the fans oiled. I guess we are ready for cold weather now. Frost was predicted for the northern counties the past two nights, co cold weather is on the way!
9/12/2020 7:00 AM 1.56 M M M M It rained almost all day yesterday and was raining again this AM. Once it started, it seems it will not stop. We needed the moisture, although I think it is too late for the corn, but it is good to go into the winter with adequate soil moisture for next spring. It is also good to see green grass again. I noticed as we drove home from Viroqua last evening around 6PM, that some of the trees are already starting to turn color. It could be from the lack of moisture or just that it is September. Somehow I hate the thought of Winter arriving all too soon with snow and cold. We did have a fire in one of the wood furnaces because the temp never got out of the 50's, and without any sun to help warm up the house, it was cool and damp.

9/15/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today is warmer at 57 degrees with sunshine for a change. The skies are hazy due to the smoke from the fires in CA. It is predicted to turn much colder in a couple of days, so today will be one to enjoy the last of summer.
9/16/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Another warm day with a starting temp of 59 degrees, The sky is clear, but hazy from the smoke. Too many trees to see the sunrise in the east and unless I want to walk up to the field, I can't see the sunset in the west wither.
9/17/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Another beautiful late summer day with sunshine in a clear (hazy from smoke) blue sky and a temp of 50 degrees.
9/18/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M It appears that today will be another beautiful late summer day. The starting temp was a bit cooler at 4 degrees and it is quite windy. The trees are really turning color around here now. I can't believe it is the middle of September, and as far as the summer is concerned, it has just begun!. With the virus and not being able to go to. At least now there will be big 10 sports and of course the Packers are playing, and well I might add.
9/19/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today was the c oldest yet at just 42 degrees. Only 10 more until it freezes. I'm sure out northern counties did have frost this AM. After all it is past the middle of September. Today our older son is 57 years old. His son was 27 on the 16th and I think our step grand daughter will be 36 on Sept. 27th. How time flies the older one gets!
9/21/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today is partly cloudy with a temp of 50 degrees. It did warm up yesterday, but only into the middle 79's with a stiff south wind blowing making it seem a little cooler.

9/23/2020 7:00 AM T M M M M
9/24/2020 7:00 AM T M M M M Very warm this AM and it was starting to rain at 6:30. There were drop marks on the deck earlier so it must have rained ever so little before that time. We could use the moisture especially as the leaves are already starting to accumulate on the ground making real fire danger a possibility. When you live in the woods, that is very important. Hunters who come from the cities or from other regions do not appreciate how dangerous fire in the woods can be.
9/25/2020 7:00 AM 0.95 M M M M The rain; began after noon and there were two big storms with lots of thunder and lightning. Everything is beautiful and green now, just what we needed here. The corn is already all yellow and brown and I think the silo filling is all done. The beans are starting to turn yellow also. The trees are really progressing with their colors. Every day you can see the changes. The ones that turned first are already dropping their leaves, so the colors probably will not be too good
9/26/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Yesterday was a beautiful early fall day with sunshine all day and warm temps in the 70's, although it was quite windy. Today is warm but not sunny. The wind has diminished and it appears the clouds are starting to clear out. I want to mow the grass which has gotten very long with the rains we have finally gotten, and there are lots of leaves down already. We did cut down as many as eight trees, but that didn't seem to make much difference with the leaf volume.
9/27/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today is warm at 61 degrees, but that is going to change around noon when a cold front will appear. Yesterday became quite warm, I think the high temp was 77 degrees. Not bad for late Sept.! They are talking frost by next week end. The next thing will be snow! I can hardly wait. Taking three dogs out in the snow is no easy task, then they come back into the house and track snow all over.
9/28/2020 7:00 AM 0.03 M M M M Today id windy and cool at 52 degrees, The sky is mostly cloudy although the sun is trying to peek out once in a while. We had a few sprinkles late yesterday PM that did not amount to much moisture.
9/29/2020 7:00 AM 0.04 M M M M Every day we get a little rain. Today is mostly cloudy with a temp of 49 degrees. The real cold is supposed to arrive on Thursday bringing our first frost of the season. The TV weather guy said that is right on schedule for the first week of October usually brings frost to this region.
9/30/2020 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Today is windy and overcast with the coldest temp yet this season of 47 degrees. If the sun does not shine it won't get much warmer either.
