pretty exciting afternoon: observed a short-lived microburst while walking up the driveway toward the north/hwy I90; these seem to occur in that area from time to time. rain didn't start until about 4:30 with some cloud to ground lightning in the SW. then, with a huge clap that sounded like a shotgun blast right overhead, the hail started about 5:30. From where I stood on the deck, it looked like pea-size, but when it slowed down some I checked the ground and found lots of nickel-size hail. The foil had been ripped off of my hail paid by the earlier high winds on the previous days, so no record of that. Hail storm lasted about ten minutes. Rained overnight too. |
